Although details about the future look and appearance of Cunard’s venerable QE2 in her new role as a floating hotel in Dubai are still a closely guarded secrete, it has emerged that as she will spend the rest of her life moored alongside the Palm Jumeirah development in the Emirate, she will not need her main engines.

Reports from Dubai suggest that the nine MAN-B&W L58/64 diesel engines fitted to the vessel during her massive 1986 refit in Bremerhaven will be taken out and sold on for further use.  Other reports from the Middle East suggest that the diesels have already found new homes, powering pumping stations in Dubai and Panama.
