Most Reliable Airlines for Cruise Travelers

After trying multiple new airlines over the last year, I have figured out which ones would be best for getting me to my ship on time and which ones might cost me my entire cruise. For all of you seasoned cruisers sound off and tell me what you think is the best/ most reliable airline to fly and where you are flying from! Also, tell me what your most unreliable airline for cruise travel is!

Now I would ALWAYS suggest flying in a day early to avoid any possibility of missing your ship but here is my favorite and most reliable airline:

From Providence, RI (PVD) to Fort. Lauderdale (FLL)  for Port Everglades or Port Miami and to Orlando (MCO) for Port Canaveral Southwest is the only airline I fly if I am catching a cruise ship.

Here is my reasoning:

Providence is a major Airport for Southwest Airlines, so there are many direct and stop over flights going to all areas of Florida from early morning to late night. Additionally, no bag, change or cancellation fees, and the customer service is some of the best I have received while flying. Lastly, my flights are very rarely delayed, and they are always ready with another flight for you if needed.

Untrustworthy Airline: JetBlue

JetBlue has very few flights from my area, has bag fees, the customer service is lacking, the planes themselves make me feel like I have to flap my arms to fly and they are famous for delayed or canceled flights. This is one airline I simply can not chance while flying to a cruise ship.

Let me know what Airlines are best for you and your area!

I, too, fly from PVD whenever possible, and nearly always my favorite, SW. Bags fly free - entertaining flight attendants - lots of flight options - and decent prices, especially when you can land a sale, and even better when you get one of the newer planes. I subtract points, though, for eliminating several NS flights I used to enjoy. On the two occasions I flew JetBlue, they were fine. I like the fact that the standard seats are a half inch wider!? But you’re right. Flights are limited around here, and if your flight cancels, then you’re stuck.

I usually can’t afford first class, but on one occasion flew First on an Aer Lingus redeye across the pond from Boston in one of those fully reclined seats. Worth every ridiculous penny! I’ve done First on AA domestic - sometimes the prices aren’t that bad. Not the same experience, but at least you get the meal, the drinks and more elbow room.

The only memorably horrid flight was in a sardine can to Lisbon on SATA. Tightest seat I ever experienced - twisted me into a pretzel!

Never had any real problems on any airlines I have taken, except one for an emergency late night flight to get home from a ship that had pod problems, and they did the best they could to get thousands home at the last minute.  I did have a bad time once on Delta.  My  husband wanted us to go to Las Vegas, and I had a blood clot in my leg so didn't think I could go.  My hubby already had his ticket and was ready to go...of course I told him to go, and then my doctor said I could go if I wore the medical stockings and got up and walked around in the plane.  It was a superficial clot and not in the deep vein.  So I booked at the last minute and had to book 1st class and sit up there alone.  Hubby was in the back of the plane.  When we boarded the plane we separated and went to our seats.  I had also paid for a aisle seat to be able to walk around a bit.  I looked for my seat and there were two men sitting in there, and they were talking to the stewardess.  I mentioned to the stewardess that the aisle seat was mine.  She just said these men wanted to sit together.  I showed her my seat number and all, and she just ignored me.  Then she just said again that they wanted to sit together.  I told her that my doctor wanted me to be able to get up and walk when I could and I had a clot and I had paid for this seat...she still  ignored me...I really didn't know what to do, and I'm not one to  make an issue of things, especially on a plane.  A man across from me heard what was going on and offered me his aisle seat. I said I shouldn't be taking his seat but he insisted that I do, so that's what I did.  He moved in to the window seat.  I had never had something like this happen before and I was not happy about it.  I had to pay a lot of money for 1st class because everything else was full because I had to get my ticket at the last minute.  I should have written to Delta, I know now, but, I always said that I would never fly Delta again...of course I may have to since it is the major airlines out of Minneapolis.  Have never heard any problems with their flights and timing and all, but, they sure need to train their stewardess' that if someone pays for their seat they should be able to get it.

Yes, Jan... I couldn't believe it, but I had a hero that day...the  nice man who moved over for me...and it couldn't have been easy for him...he was quite a large man...always in my prayers.  Haven't had to fly for awhile but next time I have to fly Delta I will probably be grinding my teeth...LOL

To take this story a little further...when we were in the Flamingo casino in Vegas...someone walked up behind me when I was playing at a slot machine and started saying something.  Guess who it was?  The lovely stewardess who refused to give me my own seat.  I don't even know what she said...I just ignored her...otherwise I probably would have said something not very nice...LOL

We can only hope she was trying to apologize ... ?
