My Philadelphia experience

Hello,

On this trip were me(gogetter), my wife and her mother.

We did this trip last year due to MIL sis who had cancer and was fading away. A chance in 7 years to see their many relatives. So again this year, we ..i mean they decide we need to go. All they had to do to convince me was a sidetrip to Atlantic City(A.C.)

We left Friday morning about 11 am Sept 24th. Safe and uneventful trip with a gas stop and lunch in Brunswick Georgia. We ate at a place called Catain Joes. seafood. I had a great fried grouper sandwich. During the fillup of gas, the nozzle didn't trip and out pours who knows how much gas....and my hands smelled...lol.

We make it to Florence S.C. and stay at a Hampton Inn. Nice and close to other food joints. $62 a night....great deal.....

We arrive in the west Philly area (Plymouth Meeting) on Cemical Road about 5 pm at another Hampton Inn. This one was finished in 1999( Prince song..i know)...lol..NICE

Great staff. They have a wonderful light breakfast. Danishes and bagels. Cereals...sausage and egg thngs...coffee,(with the addition of Baileys) teas and juices. we had something different from there in our 9 day stay there. Across the street was a shopping area called the Metroplex. My wife loved the makeup store called ULTA. There were also a Target...Lowes...Barnes and Noble, Best Buy, Dicks..a sporting goods store...Giant a supermarket...and many more.

went to A.C. on Monday and my wife came out ahead 200 samckaroos on the slots and i broke dead even on my 3 sessions of blackjack. We went to Trump Taj Mahal on the north end of the boardwalk and also the new Borgata near the marina. Borgata was an awesome casino. Lots of energy. we plan on spending a couple of dayts there our next visit.

Ate a ton of cheesestaeks. We also went downtown to a place ccalled South Street. Shopping and drinking Friday away. Visited family and friends throughout the week.

As mentioned before T.S. Jeanne hit Philly Tuesday. I-76 that runs e-w- or vice versa cut through a small mountain had mudslides and flooding.

All in all a great trip. I know this may be short and sweet but any questions feel free to ask. Cheapest gas i saw was 179.9 on S.E. Georgia.

Thanks

I'm glad you enjoyed the Philly area. Like I said before, this area is very underrated as to vacationing. Lots to do and see. I'm not much of a casino person, but the shore area in South Jersey is a great place in the spring, summer and fall. I know that you had a bad weather experience, but usually, the weather here is very moderate.

Welcome home, and thanks for the trip report.

We were in Philly about a month ago, although we were just passing through on our way to AC. I'd like to stay a bit longer next time, so thanks for the hotel report. How convenient to downtown Philly was your hotel?

While in AC, we ate at Johnny Rockets -- which I now associate with cruise ships of course. And gotta love the fudge.

gogetter - we would actually like to visit Atlantic City one day - can you tell me if it compares to Vegas size-wise - or is it smaller. Sounds like you had a great trip. Thanks for any info on AC - ttfn Jennifer

Hello,

Thanks for the welcome home.

First Lisa....the hotel wasn't too convienent to downtown, but not bad either. I-76 (Schuykill) is a very busy road during rush hour. It does make it easy to get to downtown, as Braod street is the main drag.

Jennifer.....As far as size wise, the city A.C. does not compare. Vegas is much bigger. When i first went to A.C. i was disappointed in the fact that if you drive down the road..Pacific i believe, you see the casinos on one side..the boardwalk and the ocean...and on the other you see a much more run down side of town. The road is 2 lane in each direction. However, if you take the A.C. Expressway into town they do have some higher end shops, so i guess they are trying to change. One cool thing is at the back of many casinos they have an exit to the boardwalk and you could casino hop very easyand also see many of the boardwalk features, but they do run for a season..so to speak which bascically is the summer.

Rogue... i totally agree that the Philly area is a great vacation spot. If you were coming down Broad street from the north you would see city hall and the road has to go around it. Historically speaking i got chills thinking of all the history Philly has top offer. While i did not visit any sights, Philly has an endless array of museums and sights. The Liberty Bell...Rockys statue...lol...the Phillies Eagles and Flyers...west of the city is the King of Prussia mall which is big with awesome shopping...Macys and the such. S.w. part of the city is West Chester where the TV show QVC is. Reading and shopping is 2 hours away i believe. I even told my wife i would love to go out on my own and sight see....anyways......many things to do...

A great city a great time and i would wholeheartedly reccommend it any time to anyone. The weather was just a freak thing. T.S. Jeanne came blowing through.

Anything else i would be more than happy to share.

Thanks again
