Depends how you drink it. Most hard liquor (hate that term) is used with mixers. Wine can be the most potent since it is generally drunk 'as is' and with a 10%+ content can be quite potent. Dreamer, you are quite correct about education from the parents - we have always had alcoholic drinks on full display in our house and it has never been 'forbidden fruit' and we have taught our kids to enjoy and respect it at the same time. They are now 21 and 19 (males), drink responsibly and would never dream of drinking and driving. We need to get rid this negative attitude in the US. By the way, we are originally from Scotland and are naturalized US citizens hence our realistic attitude towards alcohol.

I read on Carnival Website that no alchol will be served under 21 and anyone not looking obvious will be carded. Although you are free to gamble in casino at 18!

Found this policy statement during web search:

Consumption of Alcohol

As you may be aware, the drinking age at sea is different than at land. Each cruise line also has it's own legal drinking age.

You must be 18 years of age or older to consume alcohol on:

First European Cruises, Oceania Cruises, and Radisson Seven Seas Cruises.

You must be 21 years of age or older to consume alcohol on:

Carnival, Clipper, Costa, Cruise West, Crystal, Cunard, Delta Queen, Disney, Holland America, MSC Italian Cruises, Norwegian, Orient, Peter Deilmann, Princess, Seabourn, SeaDream, Silversea, Star Clippers, Uniworld, Viking River Cruises, Windjammer and Windstar.

You must be over 18 to consume beer and wine, and at least 21 for every other type of alcoholic drink on:

Celebrity, Royal Caribbean
