Hi all,

Our first cruise is set and we shall soon sail to the Western Carribean on the Carnival Glory. We depart Saturday, Jan 29th, from Port Canaveral. Very excited, but totally unsure what to expect. One question....is U.S. cash/coin used in the ship's casinos? Not totally sure what the Sail & Sign Card includes. Also, if I want to call home, can this done at ports of call using a calling card? Lastly, rather than abusing my credit card, is it advisable to make purchases via cash and traveler's checks? Just wondering what currency is exchanged in the ports of call after making a purchase. Thank you for responding! Off to packing.....

Hello and welcome to crazies. We sailed the Glory last March - our first cruise as well. Did we enjoy it - oh ya!!!!! You do use US coins in the casino. Sign and sail card is your room key and your i.d. to get back on board ship - don't use it to open your room safe - we did and it had to be reprogrammmed. It is also the card you use for purchases on ship - no cash is exchanged except in the casino. We used both credit cards and cash in port - US dollars are readily accepted in all the ports we visited. We did the Western exotic. Don't know about phone cards - the best way would probably be to buy them in port just to make sure. Any other questions - ask away. Enjoy your cruise. ttfn Jennifer

Welcome to CruiseCrazies, Luv2Humor!

Yes the ship casinos do use U.S. coins and currency. I would recommend making any phone calls with the phone card on the islands instead of from the ship...The ship to shore prices are outrageous! You'll definitely be saving some money with the phone cards!
