Passenger debarkation from a Carnival ship in Galveston was delayed Thursday following the discovery of a suspicious package, according to Carnival Cruise Lines.

The company said the Ecstasy, had returned to Galveston at the end of five-day Caribbean cruise.

"The debarkation process was temporarily halted and the cruise terminal evacuated while the package was further investigated by law enforcement authorities," Carnival said in a statement. "It turned out to be a false alarm and debarkation resumed mid-morning."

Carnival said Ecstasy, which is based at Galveston year-round, is scheduled to sail late Thursday on another voyage.
