Cruising with 3rd person?

So my husband and I have been on 4 cruises, and loved them. We are planning one in either January or February of 2019 and we have a friend that would like to come with us. He is single, and will be traveling with no one else. From what I'm seeing, he either has to share a room with us (which, I really don't want to do at all) or pay double fare for the room? Am I reading that correctly? We would be leaving out of Galveston, Texas (FYI).. any help or advice is appreciated!

You are correct, @fishey45. Unless there is a particular sale going on for singles, solo travelers pay close to the double fare. Norwegian has their studio cabins, and some of the other lines are following suit. The rates are still higher than if he were to share, but less than a typical double fare. I know - it’s not fare, and I wish the cruise lines would change their policy, especially now that more and more people want to travel solo.
