Carnival gives first look at staterooms coming to new cruise ship Mardi Grasarnival Cruise Line revealed details on the staterooms coming to its new ship Mardi Gras when it debuts in 2020.

The line has partnered with DCA Design International to build off existing stateroom designs for a more ergonomic and space-saving offering.

“DCA employed a thoughtful guest-centric approach gleaned from observations of how our guests use their space in conjunction with their vast experience in product design to make the staterooms as comfortable and functional as possible,” said Ben Clement, Carnival’s senior vice president of new builds in a press release.

Those designs include muted turquoise hues, floor-to-ceiling glass sliding doors, convertible sofas, foot stools that double as storage bins, mini-fridges with glass doors, more electronics outlets, more shelf space, flexible bedside lamps, larger customizable wardrobes and showers with in-shower shaving bars.

“We’ve taken the best practices in new interior design and hotel concepts and applied them to Mardi Gras to create guest-friendly staterooms designed to make guests feel at home,” said Dom Hargreaves, sector manager for DCA Design International.

The largest ship in the fleet, the 6,500-passenger Mardi Gras will feature 20 stateroom categories with more than 70 percent balcony or ocean-view staterooms. 300 of the staterooms will connect to accommodate larger families.

Once again, Carnival will roll out the adults-only Havana Club section and children-friendly Family Harbor sections. Havana Club has outdoor patio spaces and access to its own open deck with sun loungers, Cuban-themed bar and pool. No one under 18 is allowed in the evenings. Family Harbor is located near the line’s Camp Ocean for kids and has its own lounge for breakfast and snacks throughout the day including its own ice cream machine. The lounge has games and TVs as well, and is exclusive to Family Harbor travelers.

For those into a more relaxing vibe, there are the Cloud 9 spa staterooms.

The ship will feature more than 180 types of suites. Details on the ship’s high-end suites are coming in April.

Mardi Gras is headed to Port Canaveral’s new Terminal 3 when it makes its way from Europe with a short stint in New York next year. The ship will sail into the Central Florida port on Oct. 15, 2020.

Currently under construction at Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland, at 180,000 gross tons and 1,130 feet long, Mardi Gras will be the largest ship in the Carnival fleet. The ship is powered by liquefied natural gas and will be the first such cruise ship to home port in North America. The vessel will make its debut in Europe on Aug. 31, 2020.

Earlier announcements detailed some of the public spaces on the ship including its signature top-deck feature, an 800-foot-long roller coaster called Bolt: Ultimate Sea Coaster and Emeril’s Bistro 1396 from Celebrity Chef Emeril Lagasse.

The ship will feature six named neighborhoods: Grand Central, French Quarter, La Piazza, Summer Landing, Lido and The Ultimate Playground. While it will have some new features specific to the ship such as a jazz club, it will also find homes for many of the venues that have been rolled out on earlier ships.
