<p>
	SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (April 8, 2021) – In a world where working remotely has become commonplace out of necessity, Princess Cruises is delivering super-charged internet connectivity by leveraging a new constellation of satellites to offer the ultimate remote workstation – an office at sea.
</p>

<p>
	Upon its return to service, every Princess cruise ship in the global fleet will feature land-like connectivity as part of its MedallionNet Wi-Fi service, making remote working, distance learning, and the opportunity to securely conduct important transactions, available all while enjoying the most picturesque video conference backdrop on the horizon thousands of miles from home.
</p>

<p>
	Each Princess MedallionClass ship transmits enough bandwidth per vessel to guarantee a superior connection for each guest and the personal device they are using. MedallionNet’s seamless integration ensures guests can work from their deck chairs as efficiently and effectively as in their office, with access to their cloud-based enterprise applications such as storage, videoconferencing, and email. And because there is an access point in every stateroom, as well as all public areas, guests can move freely around the ship as they work without any frustrating signal drops.
</p>

<p>
	As more than 40% of the American workforce continues to work remotely, and with an expected 36.2 million Americans are projected to telecommute by 20251, an at sea office has never been more feasible and certainly remains very desirable to many.
</p>

<p>
	“As an Internet person who lives her entire life online, I was thoroughly impressed with MedallionNet,” said Chelsea Lankford, creator of fashion and lifestyle blog Truelane. “I’m always impressed by its reliability. I’ve published blog posts, uploaded videos, and streamed Netflix in the middle of the ocean without a glitch.”
</p>

<p>
	In late 2021, Princess connectivity partner – SES – will begin to launch a new constellation of satellites2, <em>O3b mPOWER</em>, that will further super-charge MedallionNet and offer guests the best connectivity possible at sea.
</p>

<p>
	The unmatched bandwidth capacity not only delivers superior Wi-Fi service levels, but also powers the Princess MedallionClass experience onboard. The cruise line’s award-winning OceanMedallion™, the most advanced wearable device in the global hospitality industry, replaces the traditional cruise card to significantly expand touch-free options and personalization on board.
</p>

<p>
	Working professionals will appreciate features and amenities such as:
</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		Keyless stateroom entry
	</li>
	<li>
		On-demand food, beverage, and retail items delivered anywhere onboard while you continue work or lead a video conference call
	</li>
	<li>
		Friends and family locator or chat function to find your travel partner when work is complete
	</li>
</ul>

<p>
	When cruise vacations begin again, Princess will be ready to take guests to the sun-drenched beaches of the Caribbean or Mexico, the awe-inspiring scenery of Alaska, the iconic sites of Europe, the unparalleled California Coast, and many more destinations.
</p>

<p>
	Princess also recently expanded its <strong><em>Book with Confidence</em></strong> policy which now allows guests the flexibility to change their vacation plans 30 days before the day of departure, receiving cancellation fees as a future cruise credit. This flexible booking option is available for any cruise bookings made through June 30, 2021, on voyages departing through Oct 31, 2021.
</p>

<p>

<p>
	SANTA CLARITA, Calif., (October 21, 2020) – Princess Cruises, the world’s leading international premium cruise line, today confirmed the official transfer of Golden Princess and the accelerated transition of Star Princess to P&amp;O Cruises Australia. Previously announced in 2018, the two vessels will now debut as Pacific Adventure (Golden Princess) and Pacific Encounter (Star Princess) anticipated to sail in 2021.
</p>

<p>
	“Golden Princess and Star Princess have sailed all over the world, creating lifelong memories for the millions of guests who sailed upon these beloved cruise ships,” said Jan Swartz, Princess Cruises president. “We know their wonderful legacy will continue under sister brand P&amp;O Cruises Australia, which has become so well-known for delivering unforgettable cruise holidays for Aussies and Kiwis to some of the most idyllic destinations in the South Pacific.”
</p>

<p>
	Golden Princess first joined the fleet in May 2001 with her sister ship Star Princess setting sail the following year in January 2002. Both Golden Princess and Star Princess played an instrumental role in the evolution of Princess.
</p>

<p>
	The ships offered guests plenty of opportunities to customize their vacation experience through an unstructured approach called Personal Choice Cruising. One of the key elements of this program was Princess innovative Personal Choice Dining, which was the only dining program in the industry at the time to give passengers freedom to dine where, when and with whom they wish. Passengers could choose between Anytime Dining, where they could dine in one of the main dining rooms when and with whom they want, and Traditional Dining with an assigned dining time, tablemates and wait staff. Both ships were also amongst the first to feature the line’s popular Lotus Spa and Fitness Centers.
</p>

<p>
	In addition, all guests enjoyed the special privacy afforded by the ships’ more than 710 balcony staterooms, a Princess trademark. Throughout the years, both ships were modernized with signature features Princess is known for, including Movies Under the Stars, The Sanctuary adults-only retreat, the Piazza, and specialty restaurants Sabatini’s and Crown Grill.
</p>

<p>
	Guests with bookings will be notified, and along with their travel advisors, and will receive information on how to book another Princess Cruise when operations resume. Guests who prefer a refund will be accommodated.
</p>

<p>
	A top health official at the National Institutes of Health acknowledged that the quarantine aboard the coronavirus-infected Diamond Princess Cruises ship failed while discussing the decision to evacuate hundreds of American passengers – 14 of whom tested positive for the virus.
</p>

<p>
	Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the National Institutes of Health, said the original idea to keep people safely quarantined on the ship wasn't unreasonable. But even with the quarantine process on the ship, virus transmission still occurred.
</p>

<p>
	The Japanese health ministry said Monday that the number of cases confirmed aboard the Diamond Princess had reached 454.
</p>

<p>
	"As it turned out, that was very ineffective in preventing spread on the ship," Fauci told the USA TODAY Editorial Board and reporters Monday. Every hour, another four or five people were being infected.
</p>

<p>
	The quarantine on the ship was scheduled to end Feb. 19, and those who came back to the U.S. a couple of days ahead of the end of the quarantine probably will have to restart the clock on a new 14-day quarantine.
</p>

<p>
	The Princess Cruises ship was carrying 2,666 guests and 1,045 crew when it set sail and was quarantined after 10 cases of coronavirus were reported Feb. 4. About 380 Americans were on the cruise ship.
</p>

<p>
	"The quarantine process failed," Fauci said. "I'd like to sugarcoat it and try to be diplomatic about it, but it failed. People were getting infected on that ship. Something went awry in the process of the quarantining on that ship. I don't know what it was, but a lot of people got infected on that ship."
</p>

<p>
	Passengers were instructed to stay in their suites or cabins during the quarantine. Those in interior cabins with no window or outdoor access were able to go on deck for up to an hour and a half but had to stay at least 3 feet from fellow passengers, Matt Smith, a family law attorney from Sacramento, California, told USA TODAY a few days into the quarantine. Meals were dropped off at the door by the ship’s crew.
</p>

<p>
	The crew also distributed masks and thermometers, and passengers were asked to take their temperatures and report readings above 99.5 degrees, Smith said. Common coronavirus symptoms include fever, cough and shortness of breath.
</p>

<p>
	The State Department coordinated with the Department of Health and Human Services and other agencies to bring passengers back to the U.S. It was a tough call to make in the first place, but it grew tougher once 14 passengers tested positive for the virus.
</p>

<p>
	The passengers were thought to be negative and put into the evacuation process. As they were on the bus getting ready to leave, tests came back positive.
</p>

<p>
	Fauci explained there was a choice: Should these people stay in Japan, or should they be flown home?
</p>

<p>
	Passengers ultimately boarded flights home. The infected and the uninfected flew in separate areas of the plane. The infected were in an area Fauci described as similar to a containment laboratory.
</p>

<p>
	To call the situation stressful would be an understatement.
</p>

<p>
	"Many of them were elderly; many of them had underlying conditions," Fauci said. "They just wanted to get home, and we felt it was safe enough on the plane to get them home without infecting anybody else."
</p>

<p>
	'Glad to be going home':Passengers on coronavirus-quarantined cruise detail US evacuation
</p>

<p>
	Fauci said health officials are expecting more positive tests, and he wouldn't be surprised if the number of infected evacuees turned out to be higher than 14.
</p>

<p>
	Not all passengers opted to leave the ship. Smith told USA TODAY he was not planning to take the charter flight back to the U.S.
</p>

<p>
	"We think the way they are handling this is not safe," Smith said Saturday. "They want to take hundreds of people off the ship before the quarantine here has been completed and without them ever being tested, and they want to throw them on buses together, then a plane, then force them to serve another 14-day quarantine under unknown circumstances."
</p>

<p>
	Japan confirmed 39 new cases of the coronavirus, or COVID-19, on a cruise ship quarantined at one of its ports, bringing the total number infected on the vessel to 174, health officials said Tuesday.
</p>

<p>
	The Diamond Princess has been docked at the Yokohama port since Feb. 3 after it was determined some passengers had been sicked with the virus. Japan confirmed 66 new cases Monday and said officials may test everyone aboard the ship.
</p>

<p>
	The American-based ship had completed a 14-day cruise in which it stopped in Hong Kong and several other Asian ports.
</p>

<p>
	Japanese government officials and the cruise line were told by Hong Kong officials that an 80-year-old male passenger who departed the ship tested positive for the virus.
</p>

<p>
	Coronavirus deaths worldwide have surpassed 1,100 and more than 45,000 have been sickened. The vast majority of those impacted are in mainland China, where the virus first began in the Hubei province in December.
</p>

<p>
	The virus has killed more people than the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) outbreak in China in 2003, when  774 people died and 8,000 were infected.
</p>

<p>
	Thirteen cases have been confirmed in the United States.
</p>

<p>
	The World Health Organization (WHO) announced on Tuesday said it hopes to have a vaccine for the virus ready within 18 months.

<p>
	An Australian couple quarantined on a cruise ship due to the deadly coronavirus kept the party flowing by getting a drone to deliver wine straight to their cabin.
</p>

<p>
	Jan and Dave Binskin, from Queensland, have chronicled their journey of boredom and booze while stranded on the Diamond Princess ship off the coast of Tokyo for the past week.
</p>

<p>
	“Quarantined on the Diamond Princess in Yokohama Japan now into Day 6 of 14 we are confined to our cabin,” the couple wrote on their Facebook account while posing with masks.
</p>

<p>
	“[We] get let out every 4/5 days for 1 hour walk on the deck we are well and in good spirits so far would appreciate any local news.”
</p>

<p>
	Although the Aussie couple had an ocean view — the seas were getting rocky and the Binskins needed some vino.
</p>

<p>
	“Our view for the next 13 days or maybe 28 as they just found another 10 positive and are taking them ashore <span class="ipsEmoji">😡</span><span class="ipsEmoji">😡</span>,” they wrote on Wednesday along with an image of the seas.
</p>

<p>
	The couple then reached out to the Naked Wine Club and — much to their delight — received two bottles of Pinot Noir that was delivered to their cabin door by drone.
</p>

<p>
	“Naked Wine Club you’re incredible. Just got the first drop,” they wrote on Friday along with an image of Dave lounging on the bed donning a mask and holding a glass of their finest.
</p>

<p>
	“Thank God for drones, the Japanese Coast Guard did not know what the fu– was going on.”
</p>

<p>
	The Diamond Princess was floating off the coast with about 3700 people aboard as the entire vessel was held under two-week quarantine since they arrived back at the port of Yokohama. A man who disembarked in Hong Kong had been diagnosed with the virus.
</p>

<p>
	The Binskins, and their wine, will be stuck on the ship for another 8 days.
</p>

<p>
	“New update on Masks,” the couple wrote on Monday with an image of their new face protection.

<p>
	SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- The number of confirmed coronavirus cases on board a quarantined cruise ship docked in Japan has nearly doubled in the past 48 hours to more than 136, including at least 23 Americans.
</p>

<p>
	From vacation cruise to a total nightmare. Some passengers on board the Diamond Princess, docked in Yokohama are trying to stay sane.
</p>

<p>
	Including newlyweds Gaetano and Milnea.
</p>

<p>
	"We aren't sick and we want to keep it that way," said Gaetano Cerullo.
</p>

<p>
	But other passengers are.
</p>

<p>
	Rebecca Frasure from Oregon is one passenger from that quarantined cruise ship, with a confirmed case of coronavirus. For some, it can be serious and deadly. But so far, Rebecca's treatment in an isolated hospital room onshore has been going well.
</p>

<p>
	"It doesn't even feel like a cold, to be honest, I wouldn't have known that there was anything wrong with me if they hadn't tested me," Frasure.
</p>

<p>
	Her husband had to stay behind on the ship, so far he's tested negative.
</p>

<p>
	He's on day six of a minimum 14-day quarantine on board the ship.
</p>

<p>
	Julie Choy from San Francisco is confined to her cabin, she and her relatives are ok and not showing symptoms of the virus.
</p>

<p>
	But there is no contact with the crew.
</p>

<p>
	"They deliver us food, breakfast lunch, dinner, other than that I don't see anyone," said Choy.
</p>

<p>
	During a video chat, Julie showed us her small 10 by 16 foot cabin with no windows.
</p>

<p>
	"It has a bathroom, one chair, one desk," Choy added.
</p>

<p>
	Many passengers are now concerned about the ventilation system, fearing the virus may spread through the vents, although there is no evidence to support this.
</p>

<p>
	The official quarantine period ends on Feb. 19, but that doesn't mean passengers will be allowed to leave.

<p>
	<strong>By Gerry Barker</strong>
</p>

<p>
	<strong>ABOARD CARIBBEAN PRINCESS_</strong>"There she blows!"
</p>

<p>
	There was much anticipation as invited media, guests and Princess personnel stood in front of the big blue whale on Deck 17 of Caribbean Princess, docked at Port Everglades.
</p>

<p>
	We were all there for the debut of The Reef Family Splash Zone, a major new feature added after the ship completed a recent drydock.
</p>

<p>
	Of course, we couldn't attend without bringing along an expert in the field to offer her own assessment, and no one is better qualified than our six-year-old granddaughter, Catherine.
</p>

<p>
	So as we all stood and they began the countdown, Cate and the other children present cheered as the first spout of water erupted from the whate's head.
</p>

<p>
	The whale and surrounding splashpad offer a number of water features, including a slide in the shape of the whale's tongue, water cannons and sprays. Cate wasted little time trying it all out.
</p>

<p>
	Princess didn't forget the adults, either. Adjacent to the splash area are loungers, couches and chairs, including shaded sections for those who want to escape the sun. It's just the ticket for sipping a beverage while the kids play.
</p>

<p>
	Speaking of beverages, there's a bar where you get order up a cocktail, or the kids can get a lookalike "mocktail," complete with chocolate sprinkles on the rim and chocolate "straws."
</p>

<p>
	There's also the Game Zone – where kids and their parents can try their hand at Connect Four, Jenga or Cornhole. We've found we are better at sipping beverages than playing games.
</p>

<p>
	While she was sad to leave the Splash Zone, the fun wasn't over yet. One deck down is the Camp Discovery area. Through a partnership with Discovery Consumer Brands, Princess offers a wide array of activities that are both fun and educational through their Discovery at Sea program.
</p>

<p>
	At Camp Discovery -- an area set aside for their young guests -- they have added an outdoor interactive water table, themed around world landmarks, such as the Gold Gate Bridge, the Sydney Opera House and the Panama Canal.
</p>

<p>
	Needless to say, by the end of the event, Cate had given both the Splash Zone and Camp Discovery the Catherine Barker Seal of Approval. For families looking at a vacation that offers something for everyone, it's hard to beat what you'll find on Caribbean Princess.

<p>
	Princess Cruises has given a name to its fifth Royal Class ship: Enchanted Princess.
</p>

<p>
	Coming in 2020, the ship follows the lineup of the fleet’s newest class of ship that saw Royal Princess in 2013 followed by Regal Princess in 2014 and Majestic Princess in 2017. A fourth ship, Sky Princess, will debut in 2019.
</p>

<p>
	A sixth Royal Class ship has yet to be named, but is due in 2022. The six ships are 143,700 gross tons and can accommodate 3,660 passengers based on double occupancy. Once again, the new ship will be constructed at Fincantieri Monfalcone shipyard.
</p>

<p>
	Farther down the line, Princess Cruises has two ships on order that will use the cleaner liquefied natural gas for fuel. Those two ships will be much larger at 175,000 tons, but won’t sail until 2023 and 2025.
</p>

<p>
	Both Royal Princess and Regal Princess regularly sail out of Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale while Majestic Princess sails in Asia and Australia. Sky Princess is slated to come to Fort Lauderdale in December 2014.
</p>

<p>
	Enchanted Princess, meanwhile, is scheduled to debut June 15, 2020 with a series of European voyages with bookings open beginning November 8, 2018. Fall/winter plans for the ship have not been announced.
</p>

<p>
	“The name Enchanted Princess is captivating and conveys the elegance and grace of our new ship which will introduce more travelers to the pleasures and value of cruising,” said Jan Swartz president of Princess Cruises in a press release. “We are certain Enchanted Princess will exceed the expectations of our guests, ensuring they have the most memorable cruise vacation.”

<p>
	Princess Cruises has revealed the line's newly enhanced beverage menus, featuring globally inspired signature cocktail offerings created by master mixologist Rob Floyd. As one of the most significant beverage changes in the history of the company, destination-specific ingredients have been carefully selected to tantalize guests' taste buds with flavors from every corner of the world. In addition to the new cocktails, the line has added 20 new high-end and exotic spirits, 39 new wines by the glass, and 17 new international and craft beers to the new menu.
</p>

<p>
	"As part of our continued commitment to the guest experience, we are thrilled to debut new menus throughout the bars and lounges aboard Princess ships," said Mario Siebaldi, senior vice president of guest operations for Princess Cruises. "Broadening the scope of our beverage options by partnering with notable industry leaders like Rob Floyd on globally inspired cocktails, as well as increasing our selection of beers and wines on board are all part of our aim to provide guests the best cruise vacation experience at sea. And with our new shareable drink recipes, guests can recreate their favorite memories once back at home over and over again."
</p>

<p>
	Highlights of the new onboard offerings include a set of signature cocktails designed by Floyd, who used fresh ingredients and destination inspiration to develop a portfolio of new drinks for Princess Cruises. Bars and lounges throughout the ships will also feature new, themed menus, so guests can have fun exploring the different offerings at the various bars on board.
</p>

<p>
	"I was truly inspired by ingredients from all the amazing destinations that Princess Cruises sails," said Rob Floyd. "Guests will be able to enjoy a wide selection of fully realized drinks that combine what I refer to as the Three T's: taste, technique, and tale."
</p>

<p>
	Floyd believes spectacular drinks combine the best of "The Three T's." First and foremost is "Taste," as interesting ingredient combinations produce delicious flavors. The second element, "Technique," refers to the skill and craft that goes into creating each drink. And last but not least the "Tale;" a creative and fascinating inspiration behind each unique cocktail.
</p>

<p>
	Whether traveling to Mexico, Italy, or the South Pacific, the globally designed cocktails by Rob Floyd have the flavors to inspire. Initial offerings include:
</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		Mayan Heat: Patrón Silver tequila, Triple Sec, lime juice, agave syrup, muddled jalapeño

	<li>
		Strawberries on Fire: Fresh strawberries, lime juice, agave syrup, jalapeño, soda

<p>
	The new beverage menu offerings will be available aboard all ships in fall 2018. In addition to adding the new wines by the glass, Princess Cruises worked with Doug Frost, one of only four people in the world to hold both the prestigious ranks of Master Sommelier and Master of Wine to refresh the wine menus onboard. More specific details will be shortly announced.
