zebra got a reaction from AndiD in The Community Dock
Merry Christmas and a very happy, healthy and fun cruising New Year, to all Crazies!!!
I'm so glad to be done with all my annual CE's, classes and other exams. We took a last minute cruise a couple of weeks ago just to celebrate ..... 😃 Now I need to face 6 day weeks till April 15th and then we will be off to cruise Alaska on back to back cruises.
Have a wonderful family and friend time over the holidays!!!!

Andi - they have "Vax Required" and "Vax Not Required" sailings. Our sailing is a "Vax Required" sailing on RCCL. I am with you that this is definitely a key to safety!

zebra got a reaction from AndiD in Daily Dock for December 2020
Just popping in to wish you all a VERY Merry Christmas and happy New Year! Most of us I am sure will be thrilled to see 2020 in our rear view mirror.
Andi - I read that you will have to have your Gall Bladder out. I had mine removed a couple of years ago and have felt wonderful ever since, no more pain, nausea or vomiting. Also my Dr said he doesn't put his patients on ANY type of a food restriction diet .... so I did nt have to change anything. Still eat bad things like spicy food and creams etc .... no problem whatsoever, which makes me think why do we really have a gall bladder at all. Anyhow, I have had NO adverse effects at all. Hope it goes as smoothly for you.
My life ges on as usual, back to Tax time ..... so Hi, Ho, Hi, Ho it's off to work I go after the holidays.
Keep well and safe everyone - hugs.

Ray - wonderful news of Yuki ..... you are not kidding life moves so fast and moving items from the bucket list to the calendar sometimes seems almost impossible.
Hi to everyone so good to hear all about your lives - so many interesting things happening in everyones lives. Ours isn't too exciting at the moment, it's the lull before the storm as work starts in 2 months. Oh yes we did book a last minute 7 day Caribbean cruise in 4 weeks time. A quick getaway before I am tied down to H & R Block for 3 and a half months again.
Enjoy what's left of the weekend everyone!

Jan - that's awesome that you guys could do what you enjoyed and still have a great cruise and make the best of it, despite the kids. We are a little different in that we do not want to spend time in our cabin, balcony or not (actually some days we don't even see the cabin until late afternoon when we are getting ready for the evening). Don't forget we live in sunny hot Florida so the balcony is certainly not a huge attraction for us. We also are not interested in room service - we like to experience most of the different restaurant offerings onboard during the duration of our cruise. So consequently being out and about on the ship all day we have a good chance of being in contact with the kids. One thing we absolutely have in common though, is going to "off the beaten path" places while in port ..... that is what we always do ..... escape the crowds and touristy areas. Aaaah, talking about off the beaten path places brings many of them around the world to memory and makes me want to get out on the ocean again!!!!

I totally understand, Jackie. I blame my husband for his retirement job that revolves around the school calendar. Not what I envisioned when he left his job, but it is what it is. Don’t be surprised if you find me on one of your cruises going solo.?

Sounds like a great itinerary Larry. We are always looking for new places to visit. You will love the Jewel, we have sailed on her many times and are huge fans of the Radiance class ships, they're just the perfect size!

John you are so right with regard to tipping. Aussies DO NOT tip. We asked our server in Sydney if he didnt mind telling us how much a server typically earns per hour and he told us AUS$27 per hour and that was a couple of years ago. They get a decent wage and don't need to rely on tips. South Africa pays a little less per hour but tipping is at your discretion and never above 10%, also when you are seated for dinner it is expected that you will be at your table for at least 2 hours id not more to enjoy the dining experience..... it's seems like it's only North America that has the "quick in and out" mentality at restaurants, with low hourly rates for servers, therefore servers expect high tips and turn over tables as fast as possible to make a livable income. With all our world travel we always make sure that we are tipping according to the culture that we are visiting.

Jan - Happy Birthday hope it was a very special one. Many thanks for your condolences, I appreciate it.
Andi - Thank you for your very kind words. I guess people who are animal/pet lovers really understand the grief of losing a beloved pet. Especially one's pet when your kids have left home, they seem to take on even more significance and fill that gap in our lives ..... Gucci was very special to us, so loving, so faithful, so sweet and truly was like a child to us. Our lives have changed and we are now feeling so lost and sad without her.
Oh how I miss chatting with Shari here and am hoping and praying that her rehab is going to work wonders.
Sorry I am still not too chatty at the moment ........

Ray - if Ephesus wasn't so oppressively HOT when we went, I would have enjoyed it much more. It was also BTKR (before my total knee replacement), and I was not walking all that great. I definitely need a re-do! Jackie and Andi are our resident Alaska experts and offer some great advice. I have only been twice on the round-trip routes - once from San Francisco on Princess - and once from Seattle on Norwegian. I loved both. Norwegian did a surprisingly fabulous job, and the ship was relatively small but beautiful - the Norwegian Pearl - and I do prefer the smaller ship for Alaska.
