  1. NCL Cruises and the Lego Group have challenged youngsters (and the young-at-heart) to compete to win a free Caribbean cruise for their family by creating their vision of the "ultimate cruise ship" using only Lego bricks. Since rules for the NCL Lego Cruise Ship Building Challenge say you can make the model "as big and as creative as you want," there's no telling how large the cruise ship models will have to be to have a shot at winning a week-long cruise valued at $2,500. While two of the contest age groups are clearly aimed at youngsters (six to nine, and 10 to 14), the third age group (15 and older) could well attract Baby Boomers who last played with Legos in the 1950s and 1960s. Even in this era $1,000 will buy a lot of Lego bricks, and one can only speculate how much Lego and cruise enthusiasts may decide to invest in a shot at one of the three free cruises. "We look forward to seeing how contestants bring their imaginations to life and rewarding the winners with a Freestyle Cruising family vacation," said NCL CEO Colin Veitch. Ship builders can enter the contest by submitting a color photo of their creation along with a 500-word essay describing their masterpiece before November 9, 2007. http://www.cruise-ship-report.com/News/091007.htm
  2. I think you'd like the Eastern from FLL. The ports are great, and there isn't the hassle of taking a shuttle into Old San Juan from the airport at the beginning and end of your cruise. It's nice to get deeper south into the Caribbean, and the sailing at night through the islands is really nice...but you'll probably enjoy the Eastern cruise from FLL just as much. Plus, you save some money and travel time. Sounds like a winner!
  3. Excellent...I'm excited. I've sent you an email.
  4. They sent me the contract, looks great...and we're starting development! Thanks for all the input, and I believe that we have something that will look great on TV. Jason, check your PM's. I'm sending you a letter.
  5. Again...I have signed the contract, so I am removing all mention of the content of this show, to allow them the opportunity to develop this in confidence. Jason, I will be in touch. I'm going to have to go down to LA to meet with them over the next few weeks, so I will keep you updated. I really want to do what I can to help you promote this site and community with the series.
  6. Well, you guys are going to love what I'm making then...can't wait to show you!
  7. I have signed the contract, so I am removing all mention of the content of this show, to allow them the opportunity to develop this in confidence. You've had a sneak peek, and we're working on it...so I will add more to this when I am able. I'm excited, this is going to happen!
  8. I'm a television producer by trade, and I used to work on cruise ships as a videographer. Those of you who know me from CJ know that I've been working on a plan for a television show about cruising for a long time. Well, I'm in discussions right now with a couple of production companies both in the US and Canada and we're getting pretty close to making something happen. I have a finished proposal that we're developing, but I want to make sure that I'm meeting the needs of people who want to see a good television show about cruising at this early stage in the pre-production. So, I'm wondering...what makes a good cruise video? When I was working on ships, we used to make those horribly cheesy videos you could buy at the end of the cruise...I never liked them, but now when I look through them, I see the value a bit more. They are good memories, but I'd like to know what would bring people back week after week to watch a show about cruise ships. What would be the things you'd like to see in a "Cruise Television" show? What were the things you've seen in cruise videos you liked? What were the things you didn't like? Would you watch a television show about cruising? Any input would be appreciated, and I'm really excited about this. I've been working on this for a long time, and it's nice to see it actually starting to happen! :D
  9. Nassau is very safe...unnless you're a gamblin' man (haha). The casino in Atlantis could get you, but the island is really not that bad. I never felt unsafe there.
  10. I couldn't pick one...sorry. 1 - Radiance of the Seas: Juneau, USA 2 - Navigator of the Seas: Nassau, Bahamas 3 - Empress of the Seas: King's Wharf, Bermuda 4 - Carnival Glory: Port Everglades, USA 5 - The World: Magdelenafjord (Svalbard), Norway 6 - Constellation: Hubbard Glacier, Canada/USA These photos were all taken with a Sony DSC F505V camera, at the lowest setting (640x480). I am so happy with this camera. I have taken it around the world a few times, and it has never let me down. Only 3.3MegaPixels, but I love it!
  11. It's usually HOT!!! I've been through the canal a few times, and even when it's raining...it's hot. Drink lots of water...please. If you want to see a cool video of the Canal, have a look at this link. It's a timelapse through the canal that I took going through it back in 2003.
  12. I spoke with him for a bit on the phone today. He sounded well, and it was good to hear that he was okay. I can understand the "taking a break" reasoning...it is summer, after all. :)
  13. I really hope so too. Does anyone have his phone number? I know David never posts, so I wonder if we'll ever know what happened if Joey has passed away. I don't have his number anymore, but perhaps someone here does? He's a great guy, and I do hope that it's nothing serious...but I have known Joey for years, and I do know that this is a possibility that we've all been taking seriously for quite some time. He actually invited me to come and videotape his Panama Canal cruise, as he thought it might be his last, but I was unable to do the trip. I kind of wished now that I would have been able to have found the time and money to have gone and done that for him and David. If he's gone, then it's really a sad day...if not, Joey...I'm gonna kick some butt when you and David get up here to Vancouver!
  14. He got up and left my cruise website a long time ago, but that's just because my site sucked...haha. I do know that he has serious health issues, and I hope that he hasn't gone silent because of those issues. I hope that he's well, and my thoughts are with him...he's a good guy, and hopefully he's just busted his computer or something :)
  15. I loved going through that canal. I lost count of how many times I did it, but it was always something memorable. This video's popularity has consistently surprised me, and has always been really positive.
  16. I don't know if any of you have had a chance to see this video I made, but it just broke 100,000 views on YouTube.com. I'm really happy that people like it so much, and I hope you find it to be interesting and entertaining! Panama Canal Timelapse Video
  17. I've been working on ships off and on since 2000. I worked for Royal Caribbean for 5 years, and then worked on "The World of ResidenSea" for a year. Royal Caribbean was a lot of fun, and I started as Stage Staff...finishing as a Head Video Technician. The job was really interesting, the people were great...and I got to go on the Legend for 2 of it's Royal Journeys before they cancelled them after 9/11. The World...well, I've been sworn to secrecy on that one. I am legally not allowed to discuss my time there, but I can tell you that it is unlike any cruise ship I've ever been on...and if you make 2.5mil / yr, you should really think about buying an apartment...it's an amazing experience. I've got photos of it up on my website, but I'm not allowed to give the address on this site.
  18. It's a great run, and a great ship. I'm glad the tour works in IE 7. I was testing on IE 6. Firefox is still the only way to fly though. :)
  19. I was just offered another fill-in contract on the ship as a videographer, but can't be away from Vancouver this summer...so if anyone knows how to make videos, maybe you can get paid to cruise! I'm glad people like the tour, and I hope you're all using Firefox to view it, because IE doesn't work so well.
  20. I don't know if any of you have seen the virtual tour I made of the Empress of the Seas back when I was working as the video tech onboard, but if you haven't...you should! It's a lot of fun, and gives you a really good idea of what the ship looks like. There are even a few hidden shots from restricted areas on the ship that you can find if you're clever. Look for the bridge, the main service corridor, the broadcast room and my cabin...they're all there! Here's the link. I hope you enjoy it! http://tinyurl.com/34jv4l PS: Please use Firefox to view the site, as Explorer does some weird formatting things. If you're not already using Firefox, I highly recommend it...as it's much better than Explorer. You can even bring across all your bookmarks, so you don't lose any of the convenience! You'll also need QuickTime to look at the tour...but it's free, and again...it's a good thing to have these days.
  21. Working on "The World" was an amazing experience, and one that I will always remember. I have a blog that I can show you if you're interested, but I can't type it in here, as my site has unfortunately been blocked by Jason. I currently run a hobby website called c r u i s e j o u r n a l s . c o m<] that is really no competition to this site, but it seems to be a dirty word on this site (along with almost every other cruise-related site out there). If you want to see what I mean, try typing the name of my website in a post, and see what shows up. As far as what I'm up to right now, I'm working on a concept for a cruise travel television show for online broadcast, and I'm currently coding and debugging another Web 2.0 website focused on cruising. I hope Jason builds a profile on my new site to promote this site...as I have no intention of blocking people who want to make cruising information and people easier to reach. You'll see what I mean when you look at the site. It's completely open, and anyone can use it to network with other people. If you're interested, you can have a look at m y c r u i s e f r i e n d s . c o m<] to see what I'm working on. It's not finished, and if you run into any problems, please let me know...it's still a bit buggy, but I think it'll be fun, and something completely different from the standard cruise-forum sites that are everywhere on the web once it's all up and running properly. It's basically a MySpace for cruisers, that anyone (and any site) can join. Other than that, I've been working as a video editor at www.realestatechannel.ca to pay the bills. It's not really all that exciting, but the hours are good...and having days off is kind of nice! Again, Jason...much respect for this site. Come by my site and promote yours...I'm not scared, and this is a great site that shouldn't have anything to worry about when it comes to other cruise sites out there. Web 2.0 baby...the internet is changing.
  22. I was on 'The World' for a year. It's been almost a year since I've been there though. I'm readjusting to life on land! I also worked for Royal Caribbean for 5 years.
  23. Haha...that's awesome. I usually just take photos for my souveniers. A lot of them are on my website for you to look at. I've never been much of a souvenier person, but my contracts on ships have always been longer than your average cruise, so I don't want to fill up on stuff and run out of space (and allowed luggage) when I'm done a contract. Although, my overweight bag got me bumped up to first class on Philippine Airlines last contract...that was kinda nice. Re-reading this thread makes me want a Bushwacker!
  24. You hardly notice how wrecked you're getting...so be careful with these!
