  1. Hi, Colorado! I've been busy keeping up with work and the like. I feel like I haven't been here in forever! We had some crazy moments on Caribbean Princess in July. One main engine was not working. Therefore, the ship was slow to get to ports, the air conditioning did not work well, the stabilizers were off, the crew was crabby. Besides all that, we had a great time with AngieAnn and Nate. How has it been here? I missed Cruise Crazies. But now I'm back!
  2. It's taken me forever to show some Crazie pics from Caribbean Princess in July.
  3. I, too have not been on Carnival. However, I have stayed in a mini-suite on the dolphin deck each time I have cruised with Princess. Despite what some may say, I like how the balcony juts out from the rest. Visit My Review for Caribbean Princess I truly enjoy Princess and can't wait to go back again soon.
  4. Thanks, everyone! We are preparing for our trip at a snail's pace. I have uveitis again. This is an eye condition which causes blindness in 30,000 people each year. It is an inflamation in the iris (color part) of the eye. I had a flare up last August through October that was much worse than this one. However, we are treating it aggressively and have positive thoughts. Sunlight shoots pain through my eye and into my head. I'm excited about the cruise, but am anxious how I am going to react to the sun in the Caribbean. My doctors have given me lots of medicine to take with in case it gets worse while on vacation. We're also discussing new treatment options for my psoriatic arthritis, which is the reason I have uveitis. The medicine is called Humira and the chance of me getting uveitis again while on this treatment is minimal. The only downside is that it's an injected drug that I must take each week for the rest of my life. I am lucky because many people have serious health issues that cannot be treated. Thanks for everything, my fellow Cruise Crazies! I will have an excellent time on the cruise no matter what. (Please get a yearly eye exam. Do it for yourself and your family.) Crazie is ready to go! You're right, she is a handful!
  5. These are all pics of St. Thomas. It was raining too hard in St. Maarten to take pics.
  6. My DH and I went to both islands last summer. We will be visiting St. Thomas again in a few days as well. Many people think opposite, but we like St. Maarten better than St. Thomas. Seemed like there were a lot less people heckling you to buy their stuff. Perhaps I can't explain why I like St. Maarten better. In St. Thomas, we went to many stores including the Coach store and I bought a purse. After that, we took a bus to Magens Bay Beach. Before you get on a bus there, ask how much it will be to get to your destination. The beach was beautiful and full of people by the time we got there. Don't-I repeat-don't eat there! We waited in line for food for 1 1/2 hours there and still didn't have food. A couple next to us gave us their packaged, just bought food. They needed to catch a bus back to their ship and didn't have time to eat it. They were so nice! Anyway, besides from not eating there, don't use the bathrooms there either. We liked the beach and the sand was so soft. It was worth going there. We've decided we'll do the same again this time. However, we'll eat on the ship before we go shopping and then to the beach. If you decide to go to the beach, be sure you bring your own beach towel from the ship. St. Maarten was beautiful. We really liked the people there. We visited That Yoda Guy's Shop. He was the person who created Yoda for Star Wars. He decided to get away from it all and moved to the islands with his wife. They sailed the ocean and have lived on the islands for a while now. My DH and I went to the shop hoping to purchase an island print he drew. We picked out the most perfect print and was about to check out when the Yoda guy came out from the back to talk to us! He personalized our print and signed it as well. It was really amazing. We'd love to visit St. Maarten again just for that experience. By now, it was pouring outside and wouldn't let up. We visited the Guavaberry shop. This is a shop that sells liquor with guavaberry in it. This is a berry that only grows on St. Maarten. Don't drink the stuff without it being blended frozen. (If you drink it alone it tastes like cough syrup.) We brought back 3 bottles. We only have a little left over. I'll post some pics of each island. Hope my post helps give you an idea of some things to do there. I'm sure others have different ideas for you as well. You will have a great time!!!!!!
  7. We've only cruised on Princess. Our luggage tags are like stickers. I write my info on them, peel them off, stick them on and hope for the best. I couldn't really laminate these, could I? Do you put on your tags before your flight? I've heard mixed messages about doing this when you get to your port. However, if you wait until then, will your bags get to you if they are lost or misplaced from the airlines? What is your suggestion?
  8. Ray, Despite your hotel problem, sounds like you are having an amazing adventure full of culture. Enjoy every experience. Can't wait to hear the full review!
  9. Thanks. Didn't have them made. I bought them at Cache (a store in our local mall). I like the fun stuff. Kinda like you like your hats.
  10. Oh, those denim jeans. Yeah, sometimes we have to just be comfy. Anyway, here's a pic of my 2 pairs of jeans. Hope no one minds I'm throwing these into this thread. Hope the images work. I know exactly what you mean about those jeans that make men like Josh Duhamel look cute.
  11. Although I haven't sailed on an upscale ship, I have to agree with PATJUD. I am packing now for our upcoming cruise. We're flying on American and they recently put their new luggage charges into effect. We're lucky we bought our tickets in March and are exempt from the charges. I would be much more cautious what I pack in our luggage if I had to pay for each bag. Mike's clothes and formal wear take up much more space than my clothes. However, we love to dress up for the evening. I love fashion and spend a lot of money on my clothes, shoes, etc. But, I have worn a pair of jeans to a smart/casual dinner one night on the cruise. These jeans are embroidered with sequins and beads. I dress up the outfit with a beautiful silk blouse, cute wedge shoes and an awesome handbag. In my opinion, if people don't realize I spent $200 on the jeans alone, then they should go to the buffet. Would you be offended if you saw me at a smart/casual evening at dinner? I am really curious about your opinion. I hope I didn't upset anyone at dinner by wearing this outfit to dinner one night. I didn't even really think about it until we are discussing it now. On the same hand, if I frequented an upscale cruise line, I might think differently about the smart/casual evening at dinner.
  12. Thanks for thinking of me, Joey! Meeting all our Crazies would also be exciting. Maybe next time.
  13. Too bad the cruise is in November. I can't take time off during the school year. Could you plan the next one in the summer?
  14. Hazelson- Glad to hear you are liking Maddy Hunter. I'm halfway through James Patterson's The Beach House. It's really good. Hope the Dr. comes back with some good news.
  15. I will be going on the Caribbean Princess in 13 days to Bermuda. It does dock at the Royal Naval Dockyard, though. I'll let you know how it is and give you a full review when we come back.
  16. Oooh! I love all this talk about books. I'll have to check out Overboard and see if I like it. I just read Plague Ship by Clive Cussler. I thought it was OK. I like and have read all of James W. Huston books as well. (Action/terrorist plots that take place on land, sea, and fighter jets.) Hazelson- Glad to see you picked up a Maddy Hunter book. Let me know if you like it.
  17. Thanks for the information, Jeanie! This really benefits us. We looooooove Princess Cruises! Can't wait to book again when we're on the ship in 20 days!
  18. Yes! I love reading on the ship. The Caribbean Princess has a library so I check stuff out there. They have plenty of Carl Hiaasen books. Skinny Dip is also my favorite! When you run out of his adult books, check out his young adult books. Such as Hoot or Flush. They're not so young adult after all! His new book, A Downhill Lie is about golfing. Not sure if I'll read it, but it sounds ironic coming from him- being a conservationalist and all. I just read Caribbean Cruising by Rachel Hawthorne. This is also a young adult book, but it was great and made me feel like I was on a cruise ship. Another good book I read was Hula Done It? by Maddy Hunter. This was a mystery book based on a cruise ship. It was really good as well. I'll be reading My Life on a Cruise Ship by Micha Berman. (This was requested by another Cruise Crazie). Hope this helps! We need a smiley face guy that has a book over his face.
  19. Always cruise line first. Don't know what we're going to do when they dry dock Caribbean Princess. We are going to have to choose another ship.
  20. I loooooooove reading! Especially in the summer. (I'm a teacher, remember?) I always join the adult book club in the summer. I am going to get this book and give you a full review. The reviews I've seen on the Internet have been very positive. Can't wait to add it to my library. Good find, kccruisin!
  21. Wow! That's exciting. And on Princess, no less. (We choose to cruise with Princess) Pass out a jacket to me, too!
  22. My parents took one cruise together on Costa Cruises to the Caribbean in the '70's. They were never really "hooked" onto cruising. However, my dad was in the Navy. He talks fondly of the sea. So, I guess I get my sea passion from my dad.
  23. Great pictures! Looked like Crazie was having fun (most of the time).
