  1. Amy, I need to look at our Jubilee pictures. We were on that ship about 3 times in that same timeframe. That would be a hoot if we were on the same cruise. Congrats on your 20th cruise-i-versary. What a great celebration.

  5. We started purchasing cruise insurance when a friend pointed out "can you afford to lose your money if something happened and you had to cancel your cruise, etc.?" We learned, however, that not all travel insurance covers pre-existing conditions. You need to be able to read the policy and understand what's covered before you make the purchase. And, even if you have the travel insurance, one of the first questions the form asks is, "what other insurance do you have?" So, I would look at your current health insurance and find out beforehand what it does and does not cover when you are on a cruise. I have found, tho, that the cost of travel insurance is really minimal - especially if you need to be evacuated by helicopter (which we have seen on almost all of our cruises and we have been on over 25!) I hope you enjoy your first cruise. I'm excited for you and cannot wait to hear more about it.
  6. Going on a cooking show cruise would definitely be in my bucket list. Jerry, however, would tell me "to change the channel". Good thing he leaves for work at 3:15am. I spend the early morning hours catching up on all of the food shows. He always says, "why do you watch, you can't eat half of what they make?"
  7. Not surprised. Not upset by the "raise" either. Let's just hope that the gratuities get to the folks that do the work. Sometimes I wonder ...
  8. Sadly, all the complaining that we did (in writing, on the phone, etc) to NCL got us no where. Since that time, we have vowed not to cruise NCL. Others may not have had that negative experience and I'm glad for them. I agree that there are right ways (and wrong ways) to complain and praise. Great article

  10. Having a port cancelled can be unsettling and upsetting. With that being said, captains just don't decide "oh I don't want to stop there". Passenger safety is always first and foremost. We have had a number of ports cancelled or re-arranged. We take it in stride. It's like being on a land vacation and it rains the entire time. I think it's most important that if there are going to be changes, all passengers are properly notified. NCL cancelled a port on us in Hawaii and never told us why. The weather was perfect, the sea was calm. There were a lot of angry passengers who demanded to know why and to this day we were never given a reason.

  12. Having a "cruise addiction" and reading this article has put me into "I need to book a cruise" mode.
  13. Our friends have brought their children with us on many vacations. They love it. They didn't sign up for any of the "kids" activities because they thought hanging with the adults would be more fun. The wait staff absolutely dotted on them and made sure that they had plenty to eat and were happy. New England is beautiful. I can't imagine how wonderful of an opportunity this trip with be. I would think of the ship as a car when it's moving and as the hotel for all of the other times. Having lots of pictures and videos will help remind them (especially the 3 yr old) of this wonderful vacation. Cannot wait to read how it played out
