  1. Happy Birthday twoifbyc!

  2. To capture my business, they need to offer the rights ports on the right ship at the right price. Why don't cruiseline web sites have the option for the potential customer to enter that data into a "profile" to give the line better criteria for future communications to me? I don't need "Sail away this summer with the kids" messages since I don't have any. To KEEP my business they need to provide the level of service I have come to expect, based on the countless number of resources available to have chosen them to begin with. That should be easy enough--- just have a "web reader" on staff to hear to hear what your customers are saying. Pam
  3. Cruisingcats-- This pic is from the harbor in Kotor, Montenegro. The sail-in to this harbor is through a fjord near Croatia--- absolutely breathtaking. The city of Kotor was kind of scary, but the surroundings were unbelieveable.

GottaCruz-- I've been a member of cruisecrazies since the fall of 2006, but haven't really had anything to post that wasn't covered by someone else. We've got a cruise coming up near my birthday next year on Celebrity's Solstice--- decided to come back to this forum to see if anyone had been on the ship yet (went in the water last fall). Since it is usually just my husband and I cruising, it seemed fitting to try to come up with a screen name that spoke to that.

  4. Hi, great photo. Where was it taken?

  5. Hi there. We'd love to see you posting in the forums. I love your screenname. Cheryl

  6. We're taking a cruise southbound from Whittier to Vancouver on Princess in May. It will be my husband, his best friend, and his wife. The other couple have never cruised before, and they don't go on vacation unless we go with them. Anyway, this is our first trip to Alaska as well. With all of the resources on the internet, I've been able to book our independent travel to Denali from Anchorage, as well as our independent whale watching tour in Juneau. We purchased the Northern Lights coupon book which gave us 2-for-1 travel on Alaska Railroads (www.akrr.com) for our Anchorage-Denali-Anchorage trip, as well as our Anchorage-Whittier train trip. (There is a coupon, I believe, for Anchorage to Seward.) We also took advantage of the lodging special with Denali Resorts (www.denaliparkresorts.com) to stay in the Grande Denali Lodge for two nights for the price of one. A lot of this "special pricing" is due to us being there so early in the season--- so it may not apply to your travel. The point is, however, with a little bit of internet surfing, you can create your own "cruisetour" for way less than what you're paying through the ship... and not be in large groups going at someone else's pace. Our private whale watching tour out of Juneau is on Harv&Marv's (www.harvandmarvs.com). Our excursion only holds 6 travelers, so at most, there will only be one other couple on board with us that we won't know. It cost about the same for the 4 of us as it would have had we booked it through Princess--- but the tour through Princess would have been on a much bigger boat, with probably 50 of our "closest" friends ;) Here are some links that may help you in your planning: Ketchikan Ketchikan Webcam - http://www.earthcam.com/usa/alaska/ketchikan/ http://www.visit-ketchikan.com/ http://www.ketchikanchamber.com/ http://www.ketchikan.com/ http://www.ketchikanonline.com/ http://www.city.ketchikan.ak.us/ Juneau http://www.traveljuneau.com/ www.juneau.com http://www.juneauempire.com/ http://www.juneaualaska.com/ Tours (Multiple Places) http://alaska.org http://www.graylinealaska.com/ http://www.majormarine.com http://www.alaskatravel.com http://www.alaskahiking.com/ http://www.alaskantoursandvacations.com http://www.allenmarinetours.com/index.html http://www.bestofalaskatravel.com/ http://www.temscoair.com/ http://www.alaskagalore.com/ http://www.mtsobek.com/alaska_Discovery/ http://www.theboatcompany.com/ http://www.alaskaadventures.com/ http://www.mightygreattrips.com/index.htm http://www.goldbelttours.com http://cyclealaska.com/ http://www.alaskaalpineadventures.com/ http://alaskaview.com/ Denali http://reservedenali.com/ http://www.nps.gov/dena http://www.nps.gov/dena/planyourvisi...-schedules.htm http://www.nps.gov/dena/planyourvisi...and-hikes.html http://www.kantishnaroadhouse.com/home.htm http://alaska.org/denali/hiking.htm http://alaska.org/denali/mckinley-chalet.jsp http://www.denaliparkresorts.com http://travel.nytimes.com/travel/gui.../overview.html http://www.denali-cabins.com/ http://www.flyrusts.com/webcam.html http://www.denalirivercabins.com/ http://www.mckinleycabins.com Seward http://www.kenaifjords.com/ http://www.seward.com http://www.renowntours.com/ http://www.alaskasealife.org/ http://www.alaskasaltwaterlodge.com/ http://www.alaskadogsled.com/ http://vangilderhotel.com http://www.breezeinn.com Cheers, Pam
  7. It's early in the season for Alaska, but we'll make the best of it. It will be my husband, John, his best friend, Donnie, his wife, Karen, and myself. I'm an avid travel planner for our personal trips-- right down to the binders. This trip poses a challenge... I've never planned a trip for others' to enjoy-- we'll see how this comes out. (Not to mention, the couple traveling with us have never been on a cruise.) We're flying into Anchorage 4 nights before boarding in Whittier. Already have train travel and our hotel booked in the Denali area (both were 2-for-1 deals), as well as our Teklanika Tundra Wilderness Tour (goes as deep into the park as it will be open this time of year-- 30 miles). We're still trying to figure out where to stay in Anchorage the night we fly in and the night before we go to Whittier. We already have an independent whale watching tour planned for our stop in Juneau. Any and all ideas for Skagway and Ketchikan are appreciated. Also, we'll be disembarking in Vancouver, renting a car (unless Amtrak starts their new rail service earlier in the day than the 6pm that is currently available), and traveling to Seattle for two nights before flying back home. We've been to Seattle before, but our friends have not. Any suggestions on hotels near Pike Place Market/Downtown are welcome as well. Cheers, Pam
  8. Thanks for the welcome, Jason and Mary Lou. We're going to be sailing to Alaska in May 2008, and I remember talking with members from cruisecrazies last fall (November 2006) at the Locando Orseolo in Venice about this site. Thought I'd join in and see if I can learn or add anything to the site. Cheers, Pam
