Pre-Cruise Hotel Recommendations in Tampa?

I will be cruising over Thanksgiving this year on the Carnival Miracle (Nov. 21-28, 2004) and we will be going down 2 or 3 days early for a pre-cruise stay.

I am competely unfamiliar with Tampa and would love some recommendations on places to stay in a good area with plenty to do during our stay and preferably real close to a beach, even if it is not right in Tampa (i.e. Clearwater Beach).

Thanks for any advice/suggestions.

Ok - I am so sorry about the 4 identical posts. I posted before lunch and after hitting the Post button - I got an error message, so I tried one more time, again gettting the same message.

After getting back from lunch, I tried again, without checking to see if it had posted previously. I feel like an idiot now, but just assumed the error message meant that my post had not actually been posted.

Sorry! :undecided:

Jason: Yes, that is the message I was receiving. I assume I should just ignore it next time?

Shari2 & GottaCruz: Thanks for the welcome, although I have been a member for quite a long time.

I was just "away" for awhile, not posting, as I tried an all-inclusive vacation in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, and was trying to learn all I could from some related message boards before I went.

So, in case anyone has any questions about all-inclusives in PDC, Mexico, feel free to email me and ask away. We stayed at the Riu Tequila, but I also visited a few other resorts, and went parasailing, so I can answer a range of questions (including shopping in Playa for anyone who might have this as one of their ports).
