internet on ship

If you take a laptop with you is the internet connection free or is there a fee. Or can you only accesss internet from specific areas. Are there connections in each cabin?

From what I've read, the availability of service and the manner in which you connect differs from ship to ship, but if the service is available, the charge for connecting from your own laptop is about $100 per week.

Iris - what cruise line are you going on and which ship? It differs from cruise line to cruise line....and some ship in each cruise line has different capabilities.

Don't remember RCI policy, but sailing on the Legend in about three weeks and will check it out.

One thing I can tell you in all our cruises internet access is NOT free. Sometimes their is a computer room or area and at other times you check out a wireless laptop and have to use it in the lobby area. The charges are per minute of use with the average being about .95 per minute.

Some lines have cabin hookups and they run a little over $100 per week.

Except when we sail on Princess (where we get free access because we are Elite members of the Captain's Club), we use Internet Cafes ashore, much more reasonable. :wink:

My son is getting a laptop and will be letting me take it so I can download the pictures daily. It has wireless built in. Does that make a difference in the fee per minute? Thanks :huh:

No, it doesn't make a difference in the fee, because you will still need to use the ship's satellite link to link to the internet.
