cruisinmama
only 3-5 night ones only? Is there a reason they are short Cruises?
DaCruzNut
Glad to have you back, Ann. I'm not sure I understand your question..... Many cruises of 7, 10 and more days stop at the Bahamas, not just short 3/5 day cruises. In fact, most of the private islands are located in the Berry Islands, a group that is part of the Bahamas. Coco Cay, Princess Islands, etc; are all part of the Berry's. Carnival doesn't have it's own private island, so many of its cruises stop at Nassau (New Providence Island) or Freeport/Lucaya (Grand Bahama Island). In fact, carnival worked out a special deal with the bahamian Governmetnt that allowed Carnival ships top open their Casinos, and put on production shows, in port, on ships that docked in Nassau overnight. More cruises used to stop there, but the Bahamian Gavernment got very greedy and keeps raising it.s port charges
Dan
As for the 3-5 night cruises, there is a large market for these type of getaways. They are probably more popular with Florida residents, but people from all over will add one of these short cruises onto a Florida land vacation. With all the new cruise ships coming out, lines like Carnival and Royal Caribbean need to put their older ships to good use, and these short trips are perfect for them. And since US law requires a foreign port call (unless there is no port call), the Bahamas are the closest to Florida ports.

TheSkipper
Ann, These cruises are usually a day over, a day in port, and a day back to Florida. However, there are many seven day cruises that stop in the Bahamas enroute to other ports.
DaCruzNut
The Regal Empress does a 2-nite from Port Everglades. You leave Ft. Lauderdale about 4:00 pm the first day. When you wake up the next mornig, you're in Nassau. You stay in Nassau all day and leave about 5:00 pm, arriving in Ft. lauderdale the next morning about 5:50 am. It's a great getaway for us locals, and the fares start at $149.00 pp in season and $129.00 out of season.....
