Hey Gang,

I finally heard back from Dream Tours about Villefranche. I am posting their reply below. If anyone is interest is joining us on a private tour with them, please let me know right away. I do not know what took so long to hear from them unless they were on holiday themselves. I was ready to book with the cruise line but if someone wants to share this tour, I will book it for us. Thanks.

Mary Ann

Hello Mary Ann,

I am Alain, manager of Dream tours

I and my partners will be very happy to drive you during your stop in Villefranche on 2006.

It is a relax full day tour special cruise.

We work with comfortable mini vans Mercedes with air conditioned and 8 seats passengers.

Pick up in the port and direction to Monaco.

First stop on the way in Eze village to visit if you wish one

perfume factory to learn the secrets of making perfumes and cosmetics.

After that direction to Monaco to visit everything.

Walking in The Old town with the Prince Palace Square, the Cathedral

Walking in Monte-Carlo and the famous Casino, the Golden Square, the very nice Hotel de Paris

Drived City tour, formule1 race circuit, beach area.

Back to Nice with Panorama, maybe if you whish the chocolate and jam factory,

the Old town with the famous flower market, and maybe a free time there to have a lunch.

Direction to St Paul de Vence, walking in the medieval village

well known for the presence of artists, painters, stars of show business, and actors.

But if you wish, we can cancel St Paul de Vence to visit Cannes to see

the Film festival Palace, the beaches, and Hotel Palace.

Back to the ship.

I will help you to choose a restaurant for the " lunch free time ", if you wish .

This is the exact same tour that we did last year. We enjoyed most of it, like most tours you have your highlights and lowlights LOL.

Since we've done this tour we don't feel like we want to repeat it again but thanks for the offer Mary Ann.

If I can give any advice - my opinion of course - skip the perfume, chocolate and jam factories. Our opinion is these are done for the kickback given to the drivers and are not in your best interest, they eat into you're daylight hours of visiting the "real" France. Also ask for extra time at St. Paul de Vence...it's spectacular. We were given this same warning!!!

St. Paul de Vence and Eze are real "Provence", very old & beautiful, you'll have your fill of shops at both of these ancient towns. In my opinion (for what it's worth) these 2 run rings around the cities Monaco/Cannes/Nice which are all more your modern day rich cities along the beach front, but it is great to visit them all. We had lunch up a back alley behind the church where Princess Grace & Prince Ranier are buried.

Whatever you do on that day it will require a fair amount of driving and be a very full day. We loved Provence and in fact would have loved to have had another stop, maybe Marseilles to experience more of their culture.

Joey,

Your tour is for just the 2 of you, right? That is to be a special day for you both Is what I remember reading.

I will wait a few days before responding to them in case some of you are delayed in reading the recent postings.

Jackie,

If we do not use Dream Tours, we will book a tour through the cruise line.

Since this is the first port of call, do you think we will have acclimated to the time changes? I was wondering if we should book something shorter in time and have more time to rest up for the rest of the tours. Having done this trip last year, what do you think? We will not have the few days before the cruise like most of you guys, arriving the morning of departure.

All of you have been so helpfull in planning this cruise.

Mary Ann, this is a tough call - I can only tell you what we do and how we feel. We travel a fair amount overseas and find that the trip to Europe is not too tiring for us - we TRY and sleep on the flight (of course Tony can sleep on a washing line  ), I sometimes need a little "help".

First thing we do when we get on an Intercontinental flight is turn our watches to the destination time and then act accordingly. As soon as we arrive in Europe which is always in the morning we keep focused on that particular time of the day and just go, go, go - we try to have an early dinner (their time) so that we can have a good deep sleep that night (which will be your first night onboard). The BIGGEST mistake is to fall into the trap of taking a daytime nap and getting that jetlagged out of sync feeling.

We don't usually have a problem with jet lag going over it's usually our return home that it hits us.

You still have a sea day after Barcelona to catch up on rest - so to answer your question I would say you'd be completed ready to do Villefranche.

I will say this - by the time we got done with the Naples stop we were totally exhausted - 4 solid days of go, go, go!!!! This time we're going to just do Villefranche at the first stop to pace ourselves a bit better.

You know yourselves better than anyone else would so do what your heart is telling you - don't overdo it if you feel it will be too much for you.

Sorry I haven't been much help!
