zebra
I'm very curious. We have travelled on most cruise lines and have had balconies on most cruises. I have yet to see a balcony door that needs to be held open by a bungee cord. There obviously must be - I see it's an item on the packing list. Which ships do not have a lock on their sliding glass door to lock it in the open position?
JoeyandDavid
I know that HAL's Oosterdam didnt have sliding doors in the stateroom we had
zebra
Interesting! Any others?
teacp
The Carnival ships balcony doors do not stay open I have had to use the bungees. The sign on the door before you go out to the balcony says if you prop the door open the AC will go off....I don't remember the exact words but you get the idea
BoatrideLover
We have had balconies on the Carnival Sensation and Fantasy (sister ships) and the Carnival Pride. None of them had sliding glass doors, rather just a single door out to the balcony and they would not stay open by themselves. We packed bungee cords to tie them to the railing. And yes, indeed, when the door is open, the A.C. went off!!
zebra
Thanks everyone now I understand. Princess, X and RCCL have glass sliders that lock in an open position - no notices about a/c going off either, but as you can see in my signature I haven't had a lot of experience with Carnival. Thanks again.
Joanandjoe
When I saw bungee cords on th list, I assumed they were for holding suitcases closed, since air security rules indicate that suitcases should be left unlocked.
Longboysfan
We would have needed a chord to hold the door open on Zaandam.
teacp
I have never left my luggage unlocked.
hazelson
On carnival I always just stick a paperback book into the the casing where the door opens - it keeps it from closing and no need for a bungee.
