TS Chris Changes Cruise Ship Itineraries

(CBS4 News) MIAMI Miami-based cruise ship operators, Royal Caribbean and Carnival, are both changing the itineraries of several of their cruise ships in order to avoid Tropical Storm Chris.

Royal Caribbean's "Navigator of the Seas", which departed Miami four days ago, had planned to dock at Philipsburg, St. Maarten, Wednesday.

The 3,100-passenger ship is spending the day at sea instead and is expected to arrive in Nassau, Bahamas, on Thursday, a day earlier than planned. It's still set to return to Miami on Saturday.

Royal Caribbean, the world's second-largest cruise operator, also said it's changing the itinerary of a New Jersey-based ship.

"Explorer of the Seas" will not dock Wednesday at San Juan, Puerto Rico, or at Labadee, Haiti, on Thursday. The ship instead will spend Wednesday at sea and dock in Nassau on Thursday.

“Freedom of the Seas” will also not make its scheduled port call in Labadee, Haiti Friday. Instead the ship will spend the day at sea.

Carnival Cruise lines is also changing the ports of call of several of their luxury cruise ships.

Carnival’s “Triumph” spent Wednesday at sea, instead of the island of St. Maarten. On Thursday, it’ll dock in Grand Turk, instead of spending the day at sea. It returns to Miami on Saturday.

Carnival’s “Valor” spent Wednesday in Grand Turk instead of St. Thomas. Thursday’s original port call in St. Maarten has been changed to a day at sea and Friday, passengers will spend the day in Freeport, instead of at sea. The ship returns to Miami on Sunday.

Carnival’s “Elation” changed Wednesday’s day at sea, to a port call in St. Thomas. Thursday, the ship will dock in Grand Cayman instead of San Juan. Friday, the ship will dock in Freeport, instead of Grand Turk. It returns to Miami on Sunday.

Carnival’s “Legend”, out of New York, will spend Thursday at sea instead of San Juan. The rest of the itinerary remains the unchanged and will return to New York on Tuesday.
