New cruise terminal hosts first ship

Source: ABC Finance News

The first cruise ship has berthed at Brisbane's new cruise terminal in Hamilton.

The 1,400 passenger liner docked at the $400 million terminal this morning.

It will depart this afternoon, after Premier Peter Beattie officially opens the terminal.

Shane Bulloch, from the Brisbane Cruise Terminal, says 55 ships have booked to berth at the facility over the next 12 months.

"If you look at ship visitations, in 2003 there are 11 ships that visited Brisbane," he said.

"This year, we'll have 55.

"The following year, we've already got over 60 and we're in discussions with a number of other cruise operators who are keen to come to Brisbane."
