My husband and I will be in San Juan for a day and a half before our cruise takes off this week. What have you done that was fun? How is the shopping there? What do the locals specialize in making to sell?? What are their beaches like? I know we would like to check out the Bacardi Rum Factory. Has anyone done that before? Does anyone know if there are internet cafes there or a place that sells long distance phone cards? Thank you.

Hi Bathfizzy and welcome to Cruisecrazies.:smile: We've done the Bacardi Rum Factor tour and thought it was kind of boring and to long. That was a few years ago.

We spent a day at Luquillo Beach and it was nice. We also enjoyed a tour of El Morro Fort in Old San Juan.

If you are a history nut, I just read about an archaeological site located 90 - minutes from Sa Juan called Caguana. It dates frm about 1200 AD and has several ball courts on a hill overlooking the Rio Tanama and petroglyphs. This is a national park and well maintained, but not fequently visited. The article mentioned an excellent place for lunch or dinner was at El Buen Cafe in the nearby town of Hatillo.

I know there is more exciting/fun stuff to do, but at least this is a different choice if you are tired of the same old stuff.

If anyone has been there, let us know about it.

:cool2: Lots to do there

See the old forts of El Morro and/or san Cristobal

Meander the streets of Old san Juan

Tour the bacardi rum factory

Tour the rain forst El Yunque

Gamble at the casinos

PR has lots of super golf courses so if this appeals to him, go for it.

Just chill on the beach.

We are cruising out of San Juan on March 25. We are arriving two days early and staying in Luquillo, which is near the rain forest. We plan to spend the first day at the beach there, and the second day hiking the rain forest. I wanted to do this since my first cruise here, over ten years ago. But the ship always docked at night so we couldn't go to the rain forest. On the sailing day we are meeting two other people at the dock and from there we plan on doing a walking tour of Old San Juan and stopping at the Cathredral to see the beautiful stained glass. Upon debarkation, we have a late flight and will go to the Bacardi Factory first. Enjoy!
