DebbieandJerry
Title :: 11-7-07 Author :: DebbieandJerry Category :: Carnival Miracle Information :: We selected this cruise ship because of the itinerary and cost. We combined this sailing with their 8-day Western Caribbean and had ourselves a 16-day cruise. We booked 9 months in advance so that we could have the same cabin. Overall itinerary was fabulous. Description :: Southern Caribbean Carnival isn't really our first choice for ships. But we couldn't pass up the itineraries and cost. The ship seemed more polished the first 8 days. Little things were broken and unattended to for the entire 2nd cruise (coffee machines, ice machines). The activities, jokes, meals, and most of the entertainment were all the same first week to second. (We have done other Eastern/Western Caribbean cruises where at least the menus were different.) The overall cleanliness of the ship was very good. The food, however, was mediocre. If you can think of the Carnival Miracle as your transportation to some great ports and can get a really good booking (we paid $750/pp per week for BALCONY, top floor for rooms), go for it! DebbieandJerry
Debbie and Jerry Thanks for the review....from what others have said I was surprised by your food comments.. could you elaberate...? Joey Joey, We ate all (but one) dinner in the dining room. We ate only one breakfast in the dining room. All of the other meals were either room service (which was excellent, by the way), or on the Lido Deck (buffet). Let's talk buffet. Except for the eggs/omelets that were made to order, all of the other hot items were not hot. Quite frequently we had to toss aside food because it was not the right temperature. The food, in general, lacked spices, flavor, or pizazz! While the plates looked pretty, we noticed that all of the meals lacked vegetables (one or two carrots, one or two string beans and a broccoli head). The "vegetarian" choices were cooked in a cheese sauce, cream sauce, etc. I am not a red meat eater, but the other diners at our table are. This is their feedback: The filet mignon was tough and inedible. The sirloin was no better. The waiter only offered two choices for the preparation of the beef meat (rare or well done). The prime rib looked beautiful. However, when the waiter asked about "au jus", he poured a brown beef gravy over the meat (certainly not au jus). The lobster was frozen and tasteless. Any grilled items (chicken or salmon) from the alternative menu were dry and completely without flavor, herbs, spices. We never opted to eat (and pay) at Nick and Nora's because the feedback from other travellers was "a huge disappointment." I guess the biggest disappointment was the fact that the menu (breakfast, lunch and dinner) did not change with the change of itinerary. As stated in my initial post, we have done Eastern/Western Caribbean and those menus varied. Everyone raved over the desserts. Their warm chocolate melting cake (offered nightly) is heavenly. sailingrose
Thanks for the review. I think in general all the cruiseline food quality is dropping. We experienced the same drop on Princess.
