Jenn,

What you have heard is pretty much correct. The boardwalk area, where the casinos are located can be quite nice. The rest of the city is a little on the seedy side, not a place I would wander at night or very far into even in daylight.

The casinos will be a little disappointment to you as frequent visitors to Las Vegas. They are kind of poor cousins, IMHO. That is not to say they are bad, just a little dissapointing.

We spent a week there about two years ago while I was giving a Seminar. While it was pleasant, we missed the Las Vegas excitment and real glitz. We found ourselves spending time in other South Jersey Shore areas.

You will find the Casinos filled with a large percentage of "day trippers" down from the greater NYC area.

Thanks for the info Ed.

We are always interested in just seeing something "new". If we don't expect too much then we are never disappointed lol.

We will have a car - anything we should look out for along the Jersey Shore? I love lighthouses and see one called the "Abescon" lighthouse. Anything else? Are there parks and beaches we can drive to?

Joey - glad you understand Scottish lol. He never met a penny he didn't like and will always stop to pick one up off the ground lol.

I don't know if your into birdwatching or not, but south of AC is Cape May where they have word class birdwatching. There's a great lighthouse down there with a beautiful state park surrounding it. It looks like you'll be there toward the end of September. The birdwatching is just starting to get good around then. A couple of weeks later would be better, but that will not be a bad time to see them. Cape May itself is a quaint little Victorian seaside town that has lots of charm.

The Absecon Lighthouse is right in Atlantic City. It's up in the inlet area that is going to have some new casinos soon, but not much there now.

September is a great month to go to the Jersey Shore. The weather is usually still warm, and the crowds are much smaller. The ocean can still be pretty warm, so if your inclined, you can spend some time on the beach. It isn't Las Vegas, but it is still nice in its own right.
