][/size]My first cruise was with HAL on the Statendam. Since then I have cruised on Royal Carribean Majesty of the Seas and Disney Magic. On the Royal Carribean ship, I had to hunt up help and then only the officers were willing to assist me even to get a refill on my all I can drink soda. On Disney the kids played in the elevators all day and with a three wheeld scooter, I just could not take the stairs. Also with Disney only certain elevators went to certain decks. I had none of those problems with HAL. My husband and I have decided if HAL doesn't go there then neither will we !!!

We haven't been on HAL. Marcy and James (our cruising buddies) took their 2 kids with them on a 7-day to the Caribbean about 9 summers ago. Their only comment was not a lot of night life. Very quiet in the casino (not a lot of people); very quiet in the lounges (even though they are not lounge folks).

We took our first HAL last fall, the Zaandam, and totally fell in love! We have done Carnival and RCCL and HAL totally gets the prize. Smaller ships, better embarkation and disembark experiences, service was better, food was better, room was better... Have I left anything out? We're booked on the Nieuw Amsterdam on November 7th to the Eastern Caribbean and can't wait to get aboard. We are in our 50s and tired of the crowds and the kids so this works perfect for us.

Me and my wife have been on a few of the Dam ships and can honestly say that HAL is the perfect line for those of us that like small ships and less crowds.

Their crew is simply the best. We love most of all, the wrap around deck, which can be use for that romantic stroll at night. We have been on RCCL, Carnival, Princess, NCL, and Celebrity,

Celebrity comes close but their ships are not built the same way, and are now built much larger.

Believe me larger is not better-unless is RCCL voyager class ships. I have not been on the Genesis class yet. All other lines with larger ships are a crowded mad house with poor food and poor service.

In order to beat HAL you have to book with a 6 star cruise line. So for the money HAL is the way to go.

I think Holland America just won an award as being one of the top cruise ships.

To answer your question about price, it totally depends on where you are going and what place you are leaving from. Price also reflects where on the ship your room is located, whether it is inside cabin, outside cabin, balcony or suite. Most of the time, the advertised price is the cheapest room on the ship (remember that cheapest isn't always the best location). There really isn't a set price for a 7-day cruise.

Some folks feel that the very front of the ship is noisey from the anchor going up and down. Rooms that are close to elevators and/or stairs tend to be a little noisey from foot traffic.

If this is your first cruise, I would try to get a room toward the middle of the ship. I'm told that you don't feel the rocking and rolling when you are middle/middle (the movement doesnt' bother me or my husband).

If you are seeking an outside cabin (window), balcony or above, ask if it is an unobstructed view. You don't want to pay for a window and all you see is the life boat!

Let us know how your search pans out.

We have cruised on RCCL, Princess, Carnival, Celebrity, Disney and HAL and I can honestly say we were totally impressed with HAL. Their ships are smaller and easier to get around also the main thing is their food and service is impeccable. Their bread pudding is to die for tongue.gif The beds and bedding are wonderful. They are also the only cruise lines we have cruised on that had an evening of outdoor grills around the pool .... which was awesome. Also their burger/hotdog bar outside had tacos, guacamole, salsa etc.

We can't wait to cruise on HAL again.
