Our first cruise to Alaska was aboard Sapphire Princess – you’re going to have a great time! We had a couple people in our group who swore they’d never cruise anywhere “cold” and have since gone several times. Alaska is a completely different experience from other cruise destinations but it is simply amazing!

Cruisey,

My advice is research. Research the ships, research the itineraries and research the ports. I find that there is less room for disappointment when you are well-informed. When I am cruising somewhere for the first time, I read just about everything I can get my hands on, formulate a plan and go with it.

Good advice Sunluva7. I have met people on crusies who were sailing for the first time and they were completely lost as to what procedures to follow and who to ask when they have a problem. Research everything about the ship, the cruise line and ports of call. After all a fair amount of money is involved and you want to get the biggest bang for your buck.

You're right, Salty Dog! A cruise is a big investment. I wasn't always a planner. In fact, I used to wander aimlessly until I met my husband who doesn't start each day without some sort of schedule. It can get quite exhausting, but on vacations, a plan comes in very handy - see the most while wasting the least amount of time!

Loved your article, Jan...can't wait to read more. I haven't been to Alaska yet since my DH was thinking like yours...he likes the warm weather cruises, especially since we are in Minnesota...he says we can see enough snow and ice here...LOL I would love to go someday, but, my next cruise after my coming Carribean cruise, hopefully, will be a Med cruise. He might change his mind about Alaska, too...hope so. Love your way of writing!
