MissChampagne 2 Report post Posted May 26, 2018 Hi everyone, doing the Epic in June and was wondering about buying a ticket to get to Rome by bus and then go off by ourselves or is the full excursions better and more safe. Thanks 1 Jason reacted to this
Jan115 1,034 Report post Posted May 27, 2018 (edited) Hi there! What date in June? We’re in the Epic next week, leaving June 3rd! We’ve done Rome before on a precruise land stay, so we are taking a taxi into Rome and exploring a few places we missed. A lot depends on what you want to do and see. From what I understand, the cruise ship’s bus drops off in one location which may or may not be close to what you are interested in seeing. Rome is pretty safe, but as in any big city, be on the alert for pickpockets. If you’re uncomfortable traveling independently, a ship tour is a good option - safety in numbers, they say. Other options are a private or semi-private (shared) small group tour, depending on what you want to do. Whatever you choose, have fun! MissChampagne 2 Report post Posted May 27, 2018 We are on the June 17 sailing. My friend and i will be in the solo cabins, really looking forwars to it! Are we able to just hop on cruise ship bus or does it need to be part of an excursion. Also i read about the hop on/off bus, a good option or not? Thanks, Miss C. Jan115 1,034 Report post Posted May 27, 2018 I haven't done the Hop On-Hop Off in Rome, but have in other European cities. It's a good way to get an overview of a city for the first time. But if you have something in particular you want to see - Vatican, Coloseum, etc. - just plan on on going directly to one or two of those, because you can spend all day at just one. The cruise ship does have a transfer-only bus, for $119 round trip, and it's booked just like an excursion - either pre book now or wait until you get on board.
