Thanks everyone for the advice. Turns out since the Hurricane last year--- Many businesses includung Hotels and rental car companies are still closed and some do not plan to re-open. (The Hertz locations on the island are closed). But the good news is I have found that Enterprise has an open location on the island. So we are good-- rental car is reserved and now we will have our own vehicle to explore Texas for a couple of days before we get on the ship!! While we are really looking forward to getting out of Ohio for 10 days ( no SNOW!!!! )---I'm wondering how the Houston area will appear considering they are still recovering from Hurricane Ike.

Thanks sailingrose--- What I was asking about is if anyone is familiar with the area--- my husband and I are planning renting a car at IAH then, hopefully returning it closer to the port before we board the ship. Thanks---

My hubby and I are sailing out of Gavelston on Voyager Feb 22. We are arrving into Houston a couple of days before to do some sightseeing & visit Johnson Space Center. We are looking to rent a car at IAH and then return it near the Port before we board the ship. Anyone know the area and/or have any suggestions?
