  • Princess Cruises Named "Best Cruise Line in Alaska" by Travel Weekly. Do you agree?

Line Recognized for Sixth Straight Year in Magazine's Readers' Choice Awards

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (January 8, 2013) – For the sixth year in a row, Princess Cruises has earned top honors as the “Best Cruise Line in Alaska” in the annual Travel Weekly Readers’ Choice Awards. The awards, given by the respected magazine’s travel agent readers, recognized the line for the quality of its Alaska cruises and cruise tours.

“Alaska is a special destination for us, so we’re honored that our program continues to receive accolades year after year,” said Jan Swartz, Princess Cruises executive vice president. “It’s especially gratifying that travel agents – the true travel experts – continue to choose Princess as the best way for their clients to experience the breathtaking beauty of this amazing state.”

Drawing on more than 40 years of experience cruising the 49th state, Princess Cruises brings more passengers to Alaska than any other cruise line, offering Gulf of Alaska and Inside Passage sailings with an extensive selection of cruisetours to the heart of Alaska.

Combining cruise, rail and lodge options to create a complete Alaska vacation, the immersive cruisetour experience combines a seven-day Gulf of Alaska cruise with one of an array of land tours ranging from three to nine nights. Travelers can explore the state’s dramatic interior with a range of options that feature at least two nights among the wilderness of Denali National Park, one of the state’s top attractions. And for those who want to explore beyond Denali, cruisetour options include the Kenai Peninsula or Wrangell-St. Elias National Park as well. Cruisetours include accommodations at the company’s scenic riverside wilderness lodges and travel by Princess’ exclusive glass-domed railcars into the heart of Alaska. And only Princess offers Direct-to-the-Wilderness rail travel to give travelers more time in the Denali area.

In 2013 the Princess Alaska program will feature a seven-ship fleet, including the recently remodeled Grand Princess sailing on its first West Coast summer, with cruises from San Francisco. The fleet will offer the most balcony staterooms in Alaska, perfect for taking in the spectacular scenery, including Glacier Bay to which Princess will again take more passengers than any other cruise line. Alaska visitors can also choose from more than 20 Princess cruisetour options, all featuring the state’s number one land attraction – Denali National Park.

We’ve sailed Princess and Celebrity to Alaska and loved them both! For the land portion we’d probably have to give a slight edge to the Celebrity/Royal Caribbean tours though – there are just so many people on the Princess tours it seems a bit crazy at times. But no matter what, visiting Alaska is an amazing experience!
