  • Royal Caribbean enlists HGTV interior designer Genevieve Gorder for Quantum Of The Seas

Royal Caribbean International, the cruise line known for its innovative, industry-leading ship design, amenities, programming and activities is once again taking steps to ensure that its newest class of ships, the Quantum-class, debuts with the hottest, most exciting lineup of offerings at sea. The cruise line today announced the introduction of the Quantum Experience Advisors program featuring a group of celebrity experts in fields such as design, sports & fitness, entertainment and others who will work hand-in-hand with Royal Caribbean's internal teams to provide their expertise to help shape interior design, key amenities and activities on the Quantum-class. Quantum of the Seas and Anthem of the Seas are set to debut in November 2014 and April 2015respectively.

Not to be a wet blanket but producers of TV series don't select hosts because of their talent in the field in question... the select them because they're attractive and good in front of a camera. I'm a little familiar with Genevieve Gorder's work and it's OK but, without doubt, there are many... perhaps hundreds... of interior designers who are vastly more talented and would likely do a better job for RCCL.

Of course, RCCL isn't the only cruise line to follow this course... Carnival uses Guy Fieri for their new burger joint on their ships and even Cunard has taken the celebrity route with their Todd English restaurants.

Whatever comes of it, let's hope that Genevieve's design is a bit more 'enduring' than most of those we see from her on land...

    :)

I think it's the name, rather than the face, that RCI will depend on to bring cruisers to Quantum. I agree - there are probably hundreds of designers who would be perfect for the job. But a room designed by Genevieve Gorder is going to sound more impressive to a potential cruiser than one designed by No-Name Nelly. Big names sell cruises.
