  1. I've thought about this one for several minutes and can't come up with an answer. I like too many, and each one has something special about it. St Thomas is very beautiful away from the port. The views from Mountain Top and Drakes Seat are pretty impressive and I do think that Charlotte Amalie is the prettiest harbour. Antigua is also a very pretty island with a beautiful beach everywhere you look. Can't leave out Barbados, the Atlantic coast is very dramatic and picturesque. Then again I also like the variety of Puerto Rico. Great question, but so difficult to answer. St Lucia is a very pretty island, I agree, but it gets a little barren on the opposite side. The mineral baths are fun, but the smell!!!!
  2. We did Alaska on RCI Legend of the Seas, Seward to Vancouver. It is a very different cruise, definitely no sunbathing. The scenery is very dramatic and seeing whales, seal and bald eagles is a very definite kick. Alaska is also full of history and I really enjoyed listening to the stories and see the artifacts that I had only read about. We did a guided tour in each port. We thought that they were very good value, but they also gave us the ability to see a lot in a short time and we had great tour guides who were very knowledgable. To see our tours you can check out Legend of the Seas - Alaska The album titles will tell you the ports.
  3. Hi Alice, We cruised on Enchantment back in '99. It was a seven day cruise and visited Key West, Cozumel, Ocho Rios and Grand Cayman. It's a beautiful ship. I really like the RCI Vision class ships, nice size and really attractive dining rooms. In Key West we just walked around. It's a great place to just window shop and bar hop, full of interesting places and really interesting people. Cozumel is one of my favourite ports. We did the Fury Cats when we were on Enchantment, but Tulum is an option and we have also done the trip to Passion Island. Cozumel is also an interesting town to walk around, but don't spend too much time in Carlos and Charlies or Fat Tuesdays. The new International pier at Cozumel is a great place to buy all your duty free and souvenirs. I have our photo album posted at Enchantment of the Seas The titles will tell you the ports. Hope this helps.
  4. Alberta ..... Australia where England play for the World Rugby Cup on Saturday
  5. Nags Head ... Doncaster in the NE of England
  6. In the Caribbean, my favourite itinerary is Southern Caribbean. It has some great ports and usually sails from San Juan.
  7. Have you ever been in contact with any of the crew you met on a cruise? One time on Nordic Prince, we got very friendly with one of the bands. They were a very young group from our old hometown in England. They became very friendly with our teenage daughters, surprise, surprise. They would even meet us on the beach when we were in port, which was Ok because they always had a big cooler of beer with them. About six months after we got back home, one of them flew out to California and spent a week with us. Last year on Brilliance, our daughter & SIL got friendly with the concierge and they e-mail each other. We're hoping that he will still be the concierge on Brilliance next year when we sail her again.
  8. It's impossible to choose, like a lot of others, I love them all, and for different reasons. In the Caribbean, which do I like the the best historically, San Juan. Which do I like for beaches, St Thomas and also the prettiest harbour. Which one for fun, Cozumel, Carlos & Charlies and the Fury Cats take some beating. Which is the most romantic port we've ever visited, hands down, Venice. It's like a fairyland, especially at night. And sailing out of Venice is an unforgetable experience. I guess to answer the question, my favourite port is the one I happen to be in at any time.
  9. We have been very fortunate with table mates. On one of our early cruises we met a couple from Arizona. We were cruising with our teenage daughters. We became very friendly and kept in touch with them, visited with each other over the years, went on two other cruises with them and they came to both our daughters weddings. We have stayed in touch with a lot of recent table mates through the magic of e-mail. Two couples that we met on Tahitian Princess earlier this year are spending a weekend with us in December, our second get together since May.
  10. We've never cruised in the winter. Latest has been November and the earliest April. We have experienced some "different" weather however. On Sun Viking, a relatively small ship, we sailed just after Hurricane Gabriel. We had huge swells, like forty feet high. They were very long amplitude, several minutes between peaks, so it was very smooth. One moment you were literally on top of the world and could see forever, then when the ship was in the bottom of the swell, all you could see was water, high up on either side. It was a two week cruise and was cut short by one day as Hurricane Hugo chased us out. Other than that, we've usually lucked out.
  11. I've been reading threads on other boards where people have claimed to take 1500-1600 photos on a seven day cruise. That's around 220 a day, if you are awake 15 hours a day, that's about 14 an hour or one every 4 to 5 minutes!!! Besides the logistics of it, what do the photograph? What do they do with them all? I thought that I took a lot of photographs, about 30 -35 a day when I used film, about 25-30 a day when I switched to digital. With digital I actually take more, but do an immediate "dump" if I don't like it. How many photos do you take and what do you do with them?
  12. We spent a week at Sandals some years ago. We had a great time and enjoyed it, but it was not as good as cruising, IMNSHO. The food was good and the drinks were first class. It somehow lacked the "atmosphere". All inclusives have changed since we did ours, with more dining options and entertainment, so we may try again. One thing about the price, I've priced Sandals recently and they are as expensive as cruises IMO.
  13. We always go out to dinner the night before we leave. It started when we first started cruising. When I got home from work on the Friday night, it seemed a good way to get us into the vacation spirit, so we would go out for dinner before leaving for the airport. We've done it ever since and it is now considered part of the vacation.
  14. We are sailing on the Serenade of the Seas on 24th April, San Juan to San Diego, through the Panama Canal. Just booked our hotel, Hotel El Convento, for a pre cruise stay. Also booked on Brilliance of the Seas for 23rd September, Barcelona, Villefranche, Livorno, Civitavecchia, Piraeus, Mykonos, Santorini, Kusadasi, Naples and back to Barcelona. Still looking at hotels in Barcelona.
  15. Yemen ... Nottingham home of the evil sheriff
  16. Although we have sailed on several Princess ships we have never tried PC dining. I enjoy the dining room and we have always had great table companions. We always have second seating and have found no reason to change. We have friends who went on Sun Princess with a group of people. They had PC dining and had the same table, same time and same waiter every night. They enjoyed it and said they wouldn't do it any other way.
