  1. If RCI is offering the Tulum trip on your cruise, I would recommend that. It's fairly expensive, but very well done and well organized. I think that they have dropped the drink cards. On our last couple of cruises on RCI, last year, I don't think that they were available. Love the Splendour, sailed her twice.
  2. We'll be in Aruba the end of April. It will be our first time. I've checked the RCI page also and the Pub Crawl sounds pretty neat. Lots of drinking. I think that we are going to do a 4X4 trip during the day. I thought about renting at the dock, it's a lot cheaper, but from what I have read on Ports of Call on the CC board, it's easy to get lost and waste a lot of time. I found another site that does the same tours as RCI for a little less money. Port Compass Still to decide if we are going out on the town in the evening, or whether to have dinner in Chops.
  3. We did Alaska last year on RCI's Legend of the Seas. We didn't do any fishing trips, but if we did it again and wanted to fish, I would definitelywaiy until we docked in the port. Plenty of fishing trips available and much cheaper than the cruise line. Alaska is awesome, every port has great tours and the scenery is incredible.
  4. I have just finished watching the movie 'Mrs Minerva", again. Not surprised it won the Oscar. Over the last few weeks we have had some disagreements on politics on this website. Have you watched this movie? How about "Hope and Glory"? I grew up during this era, spent many a night in air raid shelters and have a very strong feeling about war and the security of the USA. I don't want my grandkids to grow up in the world that I did. DaCruzNut, I don't know if you spent any time in Vietnam, I know Gogetter did, but surely you would NOT want your kids to have to go through that same experience. I don't know if George Bush is the answer, probably not, I hope that John Kerry is, but I do believe that the Clinton Administration was absolutely not. Check out the two movies I mentioned. I'm sure you will enjoy them. even if you disagree with my viewpoint. If you view them, I'd be interested in hearing your comments.
  5. We've never cruised Carnival, but have cruised RCI, Princess and NCL. Our favourite is RCI. Their ships are beautiful and we enjoy the atmosphere. We have never seen a lot of drunks, except in Cozumel and some of the other party places. During the evenings I don't think that we have ever seen anything that I would consider "drunken behavior". Princess is just like RCI, except their ships are not as attractive, IMNSHO. NCL, no comment.
  6. I watched "Night and Day" yesterday on TCM. What a great old fashioned musical. Cary Grant was just overshadowed by the Cole Porter music.
  7. Getting back to the original question. I believe, Numbskull that you are Canadian. What documentation do you need to cross the border back into Canada? To board the ship you will definitely need a photo ID and proof of citizenship. That would mean at least drivers license with photo and a valid/official birth certificate. Because we are naturalized citizens, we have always used passports for ID. It is just so much easier for us. We are in the process of renewing our passports, $55 for another 10 years. Jeff, it looks as if there are going to be changes to some of the requirements. We will be visiting Aruba in April and have been advised that Aruba will be requiring passports, but it is unclear if they will require them for cruise ship passengers. Barbados is also reconsidering their entry rquirements. Dreamer, I wish I could keep my daily bar bill to less than the cost of a passport.
  8. Miami ...... Istanbul Where RCI has just announced they will not be visiting this year.
  9. Hi Joe, are you driving to the pier or flying into LA from out of town? We live in California and drive to the pier. We check our suitcases with a porter right at the curb and then check on board the ship. You can check your luggage and then go park the car. It's pretty simple, not too busy and lots of help. Two formal nights on a seven day cruise, suit or tux. The other nights casual, those awful Dockers or slacks, jeans etc.
  10. I'll be happy if I can see the waves when I'm that age.
  11. I don't know about an Ocean Breeze, but an Ocean Drive is 1 part Malibu Coconut Rum 1 part Blue Curacao 1 part Orange Juice 1 part Pineapple Juice 1 part Cranberry Juice With the Bishops Mitre if you use Absolut Citron, it's called a Florida Joy and if you substitute cranberry for the orange it's called an Absolut Trouble. Cheers!
  12. San Marcos ...... Scarsdale lots of dieters live there
  13. The "winter" weather is cool. The Pacific is , IMNSHO, always cold, even in summer. The weather doesn't warm up until you get about Half way down Baja. Heading south is usually better than sailing north because of the wind across the deck. Doesn't seem to affect kids however, our grandkids were swimming in Alaska!
