Adventures by Disney has now officially unveiled a series of special pre-sailing experience add-ons in Vancouver before Alaska voyages on the Disney Wonder (except for the May 2 departure) and in Barcelona before Mediterranean cruises aboard the Disney Magic. Clients also can add immersive experience packages, which are privately guided by Adventures by Disney guides, during their port visits on Disney’s Alaskan and Mediterranean cruises. The new 2011 Adventures by Disney pre-departure experience products, Vancouver Escape and Barcelona Escape, are commissionable to travel agents, as are the Adventures by Disney Alaskan Wonder and Mediterranean Magic sea and shore experiences. The new pre-sale packages must be purchased in advance and in conjunction with the clients’ Disney Cruise Line bookings (stand-alone bookings are not permitted). Disney’s new sea and shore programs offer clients more options. Cruises can be combined with tours of the world’s top destinations accompanied by an Adventures by Disney guide. The programs include interaction with local experts and provide active, hands-on experiences. Considered two vacations in one, the escape packages are mini-Adventures by Disney trips available on select Disney Cruise Line departures that begin prior to the cruise, allowing clients to further explore the local culture and history of the specific destination. The Vancouver Escape is a four-day/three-night vacation that takes place prior to the Disney Cruise Line itinerary to Alaska. Clients enjoy breakfast “Under the Sea” at Vancouver Aquarium as the Beluga Whales swim nearby, followed by a tour of the Marine Science Center. Starting from the aquarium, clients receive a guided tour of Stanley Park, including a visit to the famed Totem Poles to learn rich histories and cultures of the First Nations of British Columbia. Travelers hop on a gondola to the top of Grouse Mountain to visit the resident bears and wolves of the Refuge for Endangered Wildlife and take a ride on the Mountain Zipline -- all before boarding the Disney Wonder for the voyage to Alaska. On the four-day/three-night Barcelona Escape, clients can explore the Sagrada Familia Cathedral, Antoni Gaudí's unfinished masterpiece and the landscape-architecture of Parque Guell. Junior Adventurers are treated to an exclusive archeological experience and mountain hike, as well as a visit to Pueblo Espanol followed by a flamenco farewell. Passengers aboard the feven-night Alaskan Wonders cruise and the seven-, 10- and 11-night Mediterranean Magic cruises also can opt for Adventures by Disney’s shore experiences led by Disney Adventure Guides. Mediterranean Magic offers a privately-guided tour of Florence featuring top sites such as Michelangelo’s David, followed by visits to cultural and historical locations throughout Rome, an authentic pizza lesson and even a private boat tour of Capri, including a swim. At night, clients return to the Disney Magic. Between scenic views of North America’s western shoreline aboard the seven-night Alaska cruise, guests can take a helicopter to a glacier, visit the Yukon Suspension Bridge in Canada, receive a private tour of the Jewell Gardens, attend a glassblowing demonstration or go dog sledding. Afterward, clients return to the Disney Wonder. Launched in 2005, Adventures by Disney provides guided family vacation experiences to destinations in Europe, the Americas, Africa, Asia and Australia. For the first time ever, Carnival Cruise Lines is infusing its fun spirit into the world's largest New Year's Eve celebration in New York's Times Square. Carnival today announced it is the official confetti sponsor of the Times Square New Year's Eve 2011 celebration, bringing its signature fun and popular brand to the annual gathering of more than a million revelers. The sponsorship includes multiple opportunities to associate the "Fun Ship" brand with the annual excitement and engage Times Square visitors and Carnival fans online with the option to have their wishes for 2011 added to the celebration's confetti. Carnival's Senior Cruise Director John Heald will lead the official confetti air-worthiness test in Times Square in late December. He will then grace the main event stage on December 31 to lead the New Year's Eve celebrants in a practice countdown, complete with 500 pounds of Carnival-colored red, white and blue confetti, the first confetti drop of the New Year's Eve 2011 party. At the stroke of midnight on January 1, 2011, a ton of colorful Carnival Confetti, hand-tossed by approximately 100 "confetti dispersal engineers," including a number of lucky Carnival employees, will fill the New York City skyline. Carnival will also engage the crowd through billboard advertisements and a text to win cruise giveaway on New Year's Eve. "Carnival is thrilled to be part of New York City's New Year's Eve celebration and add our brand of participatory fun to the festivities," said Jim Berra, senior vice president and chief marketing officer for Carnival Cruise Lines. "There is no place more iconic and energetic than Times Square on New Year's Eve, so the opportunity to be the official confetti sponsor of this celebration is a great way for us to reinforce the fun our guests experience and to kick off the New Year for our brand. We'll also be sending warm thoughts of Caribbean climes and tropical breezes to the revelers braving the cold by giving away a Carnival cruise vacation to one lucky person." Carnival is giving people a chance to get in on the confetti fun with the Carnival Confetti New Year's Eve Wishing Wall at the Times Square Visitor's Center located at 1560 Broadway in New York City. Wishing Wall visitors are invited to share their hopes and dreams for the coming year on colorful slips of paper that will be added to the ton of confetti that will rain from the sky as the clock strikes midnight. Four Freestyle Cruising Vessels to Set Sail In Europe, Including Two Year-Round, in 2012/13 Norwegian Cruise Line announced its largest European deployment ever for the 2012/2013 season with four Freestyle Cruising ships, including two year-round. Norwegian Spirit will join Norwegian Jade sailing year-round in Europe beginning in April 2012. This is also the first time Norwegian Spirit will sail in Europe offering 12-day Grand Mediterranean voyages in the summer and fall, along with nine-day Canary Islands in the winter and spring. The company's largest and most innovative ship, Norwegian Epic, and Norwegian Sun will continue cruising seasonally from Barcelona and Copenhagen respectively. These cruises go on sale to Norwegian's top travel partners and Latitudes members (past guests) today, December 15, 2010 and to the general public on Thursday, December 16. "Europe is one of the world's fastest growing cruise markets and one where Freestyle Cruising is very well received. Given this, we felt it was the right time to deploy four ships, including two year-round, in Europe, marking our largest European deployment in the company's history," said Kevin Sheehan, Norwegian's chief executive officer. "Guests now have the flexibility of embarking from four homeports in Europe sailing to some of the most exciting destinations in the world." The 2,018-passenger Norwegian Spirit will make her European debut with two memorable itineraries including a 12-day Grand Mediterranean cruise from Venice, Italy and Barcelona, Spain during the summer, and a nine-day Canary Islands cruise from Barcelona through the fall and winter. The 12-day Grand Mediterranean sailings run from April 28, 2012 to October 25, 2012 and begin in either Barcelona or Venice and call on Provence (Toulon), France; Florence/Pisa (Livorno), Rome (Civitavecchia) and Naples, Italy; Mykonos and Athens (Piraeus), Greece; and Istanbul and Ephesus (Izmir), Turkey. The nine-day Canary Islands cruises from Barcelona will sail from November 6, 2012 to April 8, 2013 and call on Funchal, Madeira; Santa Cruz de Tenerife; and Arrecife, Lanzarote, Canary Islands; and Granada (Málaga), Spain. Norwegian Spirit will also sail an 11-day Grand Mediterranean cruise from Barcelona to Venice on July 9, 2012 and a 13-day Grand Mediterranean from Venice to Barcelona on July 20, 2012. Continuing her year-round sailings in Europe, the 2,402-passenger Norwegian Jade will sail seven unique itineraries with ports of call in Greece, Italy, Turkey, Croatia, Israel, and Egypt from her homeports of Rome (Civitavecchia) and Venice, Italy. Norwegian Jade will continue her popular alternating seven-day Greek Isles and Greece and Turkey cruises departing on Saturdays from Venice from April 28, 2012 to October 6, 2012. The Greek Isles cruises call on Corfu, Santorini, Mykonos and Olympia (Katakolon), Greece. The Greece and Turkey sailings call on Dubrovnik and Split, Croatia; Athens (Piraeus), Greece; and Ephesus (Izmir), Turkey. Since there is no port repetition between the two itineraries, they can be easily combined on most sailings to create a port-rich 14-day European tour. Also from Venice, Norwegian Jade will sail a six-day Croatia and Greece cruise on July 14, 2012; and an eight-day Greek Isles and Turkey cruise on July 20, 2012, as well as a seven-day Adriatic and Italy cruise on October 13, 2012 with disembarkation in Rome (Civitavecchia). From Rome, Norwegian Jade will sail alternating 11-day Mediterranean & the Holy Land cruises departing on Saturdays and 10-day Eastern Mediterranean cruises departing on Wednesdays from October 20, 2012 to April 17, 2013. The Mediterranean and the Holy Land cruises call on Alanya, Turkey; Limassol, Cyprus; Haifa and Ashdod, Israel; and Port Said and Alexandria, Egypt. Norwegian's newest and most innovative ship, Norwegian Epic, will return to Barcelona sailing a series of 25 seven-day Western Mediterranean cruises from April 29 to October 14, 2012. The ship will call on Naples, Rome (Civitavecchia), and Florence/Pisa (Livorno), Italy; and Nice (Villefranche) and Provence (Marseille), France. Norwegian Sun will continue sailing her nine-day Baltic Capital cruises from Copenhagen, Denmark from May 4 to September 7, 2012 calling on Berlin (Warnemünde), Germany; Tallinn, Estonia; an overnight stay in St. Petersburg, Russia; Helsinki, Finland and Stockholm, Sweden. Norwegian Sun will also sail one 14-day Norway, Iceland & Faroe Islands cruise on September 16, 2012 calling on Bergen, and Alesund, Norway; Lerwick, Shetland Islands; Thorshavn, Faroe Islands; Reykjavik, Iceland; Glasgow (Greenock), Scotland and Dublin, Ireland. In addition, there are five opportunities for guests to have an experience of a lifetime crossing the Atlantic with Norwegian's Transatlantic cruises. Norwegian Epic offers two options: an 11-day Transatlantic from Miami to Barcelona on April 14, 2012 and a 13-day Transatlantic from Barcelona to Miami on October 21, 2012. Norwegian Spirit offers a 13-day Transatlantic from New Orleans to Barcelona on April 15, 2012. Norwegian Sun crosses the Atlantic on April 21, 2012 from Orlando (Port Canaveral) to Copenhagen and back to Miami from Copenhagen on September 30, 2012. Celebrity Cruises has revealed that its latest cruise ships will feature a restaurant where passengers can prepare their own meals while looking out to sea. The cruise line, which is known as one of the more innovative brands in the cruise industry, revealed the new "Lawn Club Grill" restaurant concept in a December 9 sneak peak of some of the new features on its forthcoming cruise ships Silhouette and Reflection. In an industry first, the new restaurant will give patrons access to the grills, pizza-making tables, large ovens and other appliances so that they can grill their own choice of meats in the evening, alongside the restaurant's chefs. During the day, the Lawn Club Grill will offer lunch, interactive demonstrations and cookery classes covering subjects such as pizza-making, marinade-making and dough-tossing. Delivery Ceremony celebrates final milestone; Disney Dream set to depart for Florida Disney Cruise Line took possession of its newest ship – Disney Dream – from the Meyer Werft shipyard in a traditional maritime ceremony aboard the ship in Bremerhaven, Germany. The Meyer Werft flag was lowered, while the Disney Cruise Line flag was raised, transferring ownership from the shipbuilder to Disney. The milestone closes the book on the ship’s construction journey, which began nearly two years ago in Papenburg, Germany, and signals its readiness to welcome guests on its maiden voyage, set for Jan. 26, 2011, from Port Canaveral, Florida. “The Disney Dream is an extraordinary ship, in part because of the collaboration of the superb shipbuilders at Meyer Werft and the innovative technology and storytelling that our Disney team has developed and implemented aboard,” said Karl Holz, president of Disney Cruise Line. “I cannot wait for our guests to experience this newest addition to our fleet, a ship that will delight and surprise all ages.” From a water coaster at sea called AquaDuck, and inside staterooms with virtual views, to Enchanted Art that immerses guests in stories, and fine dining at Remy, the Disney Dream will deliver family cruise experiences like no other. The shipboard experience remains focused on the legacy and heritage of The Walt Disney Company’s most known assets – master storytelling, world-class entertainment and legendary guest service. “It gives me great pride to deliver the Disney Dream, which is the largest ship that Meyer Werft has ever built,” said Bernard Meyer, managing partner of Meyer Werft. “Over the last few years, I have seen this ‘dream’ transform from the design phase to a magnificent reality, which guests will soon be able to enjoy for years to come. To make this dream come true, it takes a special partnership. The collaboration among Disney Cruise Line, Meyer Werft and its suppliers has been excellent and very creative.” Meyer Werft and Disney first signed a contract to build two new ships in April of 2007. Shortly thereafter, planning for the design of the ships began and construction started with the first steel cutting in Papenburg, Germany, on March 2, 2009. Since the recent completion of the ship’s float out from the shipyard and conveyance along the River Ems, the test-and-adjust period has been in full swing, including sea trials and a brief dry dock in Hamburg, Germany. The ship will remain in Bremerhaven for another week while additional crew members board, and supplies and provisions are loaded. The Disney Dream is scheduled to depart on Dec. 19, for its transatlantic voyage to the U.S., with an expected arrival on Jan. 4, 2011. Captain Tom Forberg will officially take the helm of the Disney Dream for Disney Cruise Line. As part of the Disney Cruise Line ship construction team, Captain Forberg has been with the company for 15 years and was responsible for launching Disney’s first two ships, the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder. The Disney Dream is scheduled to sail three-, four- and five-night cruises to the Bahamas, from Port Canaveral. Sister ship Disney Fantasy is currently in production at the Meyer Werft shipyard and is scheduled to set sail on its maiden voyage on April 7, 2012. It will sail seven-night alternating eastern and western Caribbean itineraries, also from Port Canaveral. Based in Celebration, Fla., the Disney Cruise Line experience is focused on providing a setting where families can reconnect, adults can recharge and kids can immerse themselves in worlds of fantasy only Disney can create. Most recently, the company was recognized as the top cruise experience by the readers of Conde Nast Traveler magazine. Disney Cruise Line was voted the No. 1 cruise experience in the magazine’s 2010 Readers’ Choice Awards in the mega-ship category. Click here to view the article

Pictured here at the press conference is (from left to right): Carnival's U.S. Managing Director of Sales Mike Julius; Charleston Area Convention & Visitors Bureau's Gary Edwards whose daughter is currently in remission after going through cancer treatment at MUSC; and MUSC President Dr. Ray Greenberg. Carnival Cruise Lines and the Medical University of South Carolina Children's Hospital are proud to announce a partnership for 2011. The year-long partnership will include several in-kind and monetary donations and fundraisers, as well as bringing smiles and fun to the patients of the MUSC Children's Hospital. Under the partnership, Carnival's involvement includes: Four Fun Centers, mobile entertainment units that include a Nintendo Wii console, flat panel television and DVD player. Each Fun Center can be rolled up to the side of patients' beds or throughout the hospital. Two laptops will also be donated, both items helping to improve the quality of the child's life in the hospital setting. Quarterly shows for the children in the MUSC Children's Hospital Atrium, by a Carnival cruise director, Fun Ship Freddy and other talent. A total of 1,000 Towel Pals delivered throughout the year to provide companionship and comfort to the children. A donation to the Children's Hospital through fundraising efforts at the Cooper River Bridge Run. A spring fund-raising effort, currently in the planning stages. "We are excited to expand our partnership with MUSC Children's Hospital after a fun tie-in at last year's Cooper River Bridge Run," said Mike Julius, managing director U.S. sales for Carnival. "This hospital makes a positive impact on these children's lives. It is extremely important to Carnival Cruise Lines, and part of our ongoing corporate philosophy, to give back to the Charleston area community in a meaningful way while bringing smiles to children's faces." "We are looking forward to the positive impact of this partnership," said Dr. Ray Greenberg, MUSC president. "Since becoming a greater part of our business and tourism community this year, Carnival Cruise Lines is continuing to demonstrate its commitment to the Charleston area." In May 2010, Carnival Cruise Lines officially launched the first, year-round cruise service from Charleston on the Carnival Fantasy, with destinations to The Bahamas and Key West, Fla. In 2011, Carnival will also offer a series of Bermuda cruises for the first time from Charleston. "We are thankful for the positive reception Carnival has received since the launch of our year-round cruise service," added Mike Julius. "The Port, the Charleston Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, area travel agents and many other business and community leaders and residents have provided support and partnership, enabling Carnival to truly feel a part of this great community." The partnership will begin December 2010 with the first of the quarterly entertainment shows occurring on December 17. The goal for the partnership is to provide $50,000 through a combination of monetary and in-kind donations and fundraising efforts. The Fun Centers are expected in the first quarter of 2011. Information for the upcoming entertainment events, fundraisers and Cooper River Bridge Run involvement will be announced at a later date.
