COMPLETE REVIEW

This was a cruise that I had wanted to do for a long time and I am glad that I did it before the rest of the cruise lines discovered Asia.

Costa Allegra doesn' have the bells and whistles that the big ship's have...she is more like a comfy armchair that greets you with a cuddle. Her crew were second to none, the food was exceptional with regional cuisine choices along with the usual cruise line food...all prepared and served perfectly.

My cabin was a single inside on deck 5, very spacious and cared for by my steward Dijong who did a wonderful job.

The cruise included my birthday, so a cake was laid on and singing waitstaff which was amazing and very enjoyable.

The ports....Hong Kong, Manila, Kota Kinabalu, Bandar Seri Begawan, Singapore, Da-Nang, Sanya & Hong Kong.

The flights were booked through Costa Crociere and were with Air France, excellent experiences both ways from/to home in the UK.

The weather was extremely hot, very few days under 100 degrees...even though I arrived in Hong Kong during the tail of a typhoon, it was still very warm.

Captain Donato was a superb host along with all of his crew, thoroughly enjoyed what was my first Costa Crociere cruise and Allegra was firmly planted as my favourite small cruise ship.

Do you book a single room or do you take the roommate that the ship gives you? Always wanted to know.

Thanks for the review.

I always travel alone, Costa Crociere's ships are 50% with single cabins without single supplement and the other 50% of the fleet without single cabins are 30-75% single supplement.

Allegra had single cabins, both inside and outsides...she and her sister Marina had handbuilt cabins, not the usual prefabricated ones found on modern cruise ships, so they were very spacious.

Only once did I sail with someone else in the same cabin and that was a 2 night shakedown cruise on the then brand new Norwegian Gem before she entered service. I wouldn't share a cabin again, nothing wrong with the person who I shared with but I just prefer to be on my own...same at mealtimes too, always go for a table to myself if at all possible. Comes from living alone, I guess.
