I realize it has been over a year since we took the cruise on the Jewel, but with no reviews, I thought I would just let you know that the Jewel is exactly that. She is a beautiful ship. The food on our cruise was outstanding. The Buffet was so good we ended up going there for suppers most nights because with most of the crowd eating in the restaurants, the Buffet area was almost deserted, the lights were low, we could always get a window seat, and the food was excellent.
We did try Tango's and we loved both the food and the service. The Italian was O.K. The Tsars was also O.K. Make reservations early in the cruise. They WILL turn you away if you arrive in jeans, shorts, etc. Resort casual, at least, is expected.
We did not take any of the NCL shore excursions. San Juan was walkable from the ship, Antiqua we took a local taxi service to see the island (they are all at the dock, waiting for passengers), In St. Thomas we walked into town and found the local taxi called the "Safari". They are open sided trucks that the locals use to get around. $2.00 p.p paid when you get off. It makes a complete trip around the island and you can get off and on as often as you wish. ($2.00 each time) You grab a seat and hang on because it is a wild ride. Pick up a brochure called the Pocket Map of St. Thomas on the info board as you enter the Havensight Mall. Find a local for info on Safari stops, although locals just put their hand out to have it stop and press the buzzer to get off. Everyone is friendly & helpful.
Entertainment was very good, some of it excellent. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed this cruise.
