  1. We've been lucky Mach (don't want to jinx it though) in that our luggage usually makes it to the cabin soon after we get access to the cabin. Sometimes, when we are able to get in to the cabin, the luggage was already waiting at the door or in the hallway. Guess that could be an advantage to boarding early too. Kinda like first come, first served!! Most of the time, even though we bring swim suits in the carry-on, we never get to use them. With going to the buffet, having a couple DOD's and touring the ship, that usually eats up most of the time waiting for the cabin access.
  2. It's sad Larry!! I've heard stories of how people actually make a living by law suits!! And the lawyers would rather not have to go to court and incur the added time and expense so the seem to always opt for out of court settlements. And who pays for it all? WE do!! In higher insurance premiums!!!
  3. I have contacted the moderation team at Cruisecrazies and asked them to remove this thread. I assure you it was not intended to start an argument between members and I do apologize if it has hit a nerve with anyone.
  4. You sure it's that "voice on your shoulder" or maybe your husband over your shoulder? :D
  5. And as I stated in my post Kev, you have every right to your free space. What my wife and I do is we usually wait to see if our neighbors smoke. If we don't see them smoking, we ask if us smoking would disturb them. If they say yes, we only will smoke on the balcony when our neighbors aren't on theirs. In my opinion, I feel there are other approaches to smoking on the balcony, the first being respectful of one's neighbors. We had a cruise where a group of early 20's kids booked two adjoining cabins next to us. They would have a party every night sometimes up to 1am. They had a radio playing, were throwing things like plastic beer bottles overboard, were loud and obnoxious and had absolutely NO respect for the other passengers. Sure, we called the pursers desk to complain. All of a sudden it would get quite for about 15 minutes and then the party started all over again. They were never removed from the ship at any of the ports we visited. Never heard if they were fined for their disrespect (like Disney want's to do with their $250 "recovery fee") and we put up with this for the entire week of the cruise. My point, is you can't address one circumstance without addressing the other. It was also my point that the reasoning Disney is using (by having to clean all the interior cabin items when your smoking on the balcony) is an insult to my intelligence. All they had to report was that they were doing this for passenger comfort and safety.
  6. OK, you asked so here I go....... When I go on a cruise, I respect everyones "space". Non-smokers have a right to not being in enclosed areas where smokers may dwell. I truly believe that due to the ignorant act of smokers (and by the way, I smoke) throwing their butts overboard can be detrimental to the vessel. If that butt is still lit, and blows back into another balcony or other open space on the vessel, it can start a fire. BUT, smoking in the United States and in other countries is LEGAL. I tend to be more offended by some drunken passenger that never said "no" to another DOD on the ship, becomes arrogant and intrusive to MY space. And you can drink anywhere on the ship. But yet, alcohol consumption is ALSO legal. Disney states that the $250 charge is "That fee covers a deep cleaning to include air filter replacement, carpet extraction, the cleaning and replacement of drapes, comforters, blankets, and pillows, along with verandah cleaning and maintenance.". What I don't understand is they are addressing this about smoking on the "balconies" of their ship. I don't see how smoking on the balcony would require them to replace filters, carpet cleaning, the cleaning AND replacement of drapes (why would you clean them and also replace them?), comforters, blankets and pillows along with balcony cleaning and maintenance! I always thought the balconies were OUTSIDE" and separate from the cabin!! And, in open air, what cleaning and maintenance has to be performed on the balcony??? I'm sorry but any cruise line has the right to alter their policy for the best interest of it's passengers, but to come up with a line of rhetoric to explain their reasons boggles the mind. I would have been more receiving to this policy change if they just stated they were doing it in the best interest of their passengers.
  7. Thanks Shari. I hope your right about picking the right ship. This will be our 2nd try of RCCL and we weren't all that impressed with the Jewel in May but we'll be open minded. 4 years since your last cruise? Not only are you due, your OVER due!!!! Hope you enjoyed your day as well
  8. And if I may add one more thing......CONTROL your kids!! Some of us that cruise don't have kids and are on a cruise to relax and enjoy our vacation. A vacation we worked very hard to attain. NOT to have to step over kids sitting on the stairs between decks or riding in elevators that stop on every floor because the kids thought it would be funny to press every button in the elevator. Sorry if I sound like an old grinch, but in my past cruises, I have come across too many instances where the parents let the kids have the run of the ship with no supervision right after boarding. Remember, it's our cruise too!! Just sayin'
  9. Wish our cruise on the Brilliance in November went down but it actually went UP!! It went up by $800pp !!
  10. "Dr. Cass actually took his entire office on a paid vacation, including some of their spouses." If the doctor can afford this, he can afford to lose a few days of the office being closed. He's an eye doctor, not a heart surgeon!! Just sayin'!! Get over it doc........
  11. We board early as well. We check in as much as we can and take 1 beach bag onboard with us with the necessaries (like a set of swim clothes) since we can't get into our cabin until 1 or 1:30pm. Being early also gives us a chance to tour the ship and so I can scope out the adult beverage areas and we can see what's where
  12. WHOA...Easy Deb!!! The time flew by and surprised me about the November cruise coming! Don't want the time to go too fast before it becomes another cruise memory
  13. Agreed Chrissy was on the phone with our C.A. and found out that the cost of a balcony cabin on our Brilliance cruise went UP by $800pp because there are only a few balcony cabins left!! She was wavering between our Brilliance cruise and going back on the Carnival Dream but we considered a few things......For instance... Carnival Dream leaves from Port Canaveral - A 3 hour drive Brilliance of the Seas leaves from the Port of Tampa - A 30 minute drive OBC on the Dream - 0 OBC on the Brilliance - up to $300 The drive and the OBC talks!!!
  14. OMG!!! TOOO funny....pass me the kleenex!!! :D
  15. I'm with ya' Mach. We cruised in May but DARN if the November cruise didn't creep up on us!! The best is all the OBC's we have for this cruise. This will be our 2nd on RCCL and the sister ship in the Radience class of what we did in May. And, like I mentioned in the post, she just emerged from dry dock this past May and added a lot of updates and amenities. Oh darn, time to get excited again!!!
  16. I've said it before, and I'll say it again Shon..."YOU DA' MAN"!!! When it comes to cruises, I'm more of an introvert. I like to watch fellow passengers like you bang it up. It makes for good memories of the cruise and dampens the display passengers make of themselves that spend their cruise "inspecting" the ship, looking for any failure they can find. Gotta get on a cruise with you man!! Be safe........
  17. LOL @ the "Shopping Cart" remark Jan. I thought it kinda made the ship look like it had a "spoiler" like on the back of a race car. THEN NOW
  18. Holy cow...where did the time go??? Seems we just got off the Jewel of the Seas. Just got an email from my C.A. advising me we have 3 day's for the final cruise payment aboard the Brilliance of the Seas in November. Been reading some reviews since she emerged from dry dock and even though they first started out...let's say...not so good, now the more recent ones are more towards the positive side. 90 Day's...3 months...CRUISE TIME AGAIN!!!!
  19. Like Mach, the majority of the cruises we have been on were either early or late in the year (when schools are open) because that is when prices and cabin choices are the best. Since we live in Florida now, our sailing ports are within driving distance from home. The down side is if we cruise late in the season, we keep a close eye on the weather for hurricanes. The only issue we had sailing during hurricane season was on a cruise years ago aboard the Celebrity Meridian from N.Y. (when we lived in N.Y.) to Bermuda. There was a hurricane spinning in the Caribbean and it made the Atlantic very rough. Being the Meridian was an older vessel (without stabilizers) it made the cruise rough. Many were wearing the tabs behind their ears and most of the ship was like a ghost town. My brother and I took that opportunity to "bar hop" and had a tour of the ship many times finding ourselves in "Crew Only" areas (ooops!!). AAAAH...the good old days!!!
  20. Welcome home Jan. Glad you had a great cruise on the GP!! We loved her when we sailed her too. I was just heartbroken when they removed the Skywalker lounge. It just made the ship look so cool!!!
  21. My pleasure Mach During the Triumph mishap, I was one of the main (I guess you can say) "bashers" against how the media was reporting the issue. ESPECIALLY how CNN found it necessary to have video footage for 24 hours. I watched about 15 minutes of the coverage before it became like watching snow melt!!! Boy, did the members here go back and forth bashing the media!!! It was GREAT!!! During our cruise on the Triumph a few years prior to the incident, my wife of (then) 20 years and I renewed our vows on-board. The Captain officiated the ceremony as well as sat with us for some wine (he had iced tea), they had a three tier cake, a crew of 5 to serve us, we received a renewal of vows certificate from Carnival and we had friends from a prior cruise that were our best man and maid of honor. Carnival did an AWESOME job. In no way at at no time during this incident, did I downplay my plans to sail with Carnival in the future!!!! Glad you enjoyed the video
  22. Pardon me Howard if I seem to be reading into your post, but if your referring to the Carnival Triumph with your remark of "incompetence" related to the failed sailing she had, I would like you to watch this video posted on YouTube from a passenger that sailed the Triumph when she failed. PLEASE TAKE SPECIAL NOTE AT THE 4:09 TIME WHERE THE POSITIVE RESPONSE FROM CARNIVAL EMPLOYEES BEGIN AND AT 5:50 WHERE THE POSTER IDENTIFIES THE ACTIONS OF THE TRIUMPH CREW. We sailed on the Triumph a few years prior to that incident and she was and IS a beautiful vessel. It is an unfortunate happening but from all indications (reports and posts), the crew did the best they could with the resources they had to work with. Again, excuse me if I mis-read your post, but the video is worth watching.....
  23. And as with my last nine cruises, a .02% chance I will continue to take
  24. As I have stated in the past, many new or non-cruisers seem to forget that these cruise vessels operate 365 days a year. If you do the math, a cruise ship that carries an average 3000 passengers per voyage, totals to over 1 MILLION passengers sailed over one year. I have experienced in the past minimal forms of inconvenience ranging from the ship having to change itinerary to air conditioning not working in the cabin. In ALL cases, the crew or line responded with resolve. Give it time Mach, I'm sure the media will jump all over this especially if another cruise line or Carnival in general has an on-board issue of ANY kind!!!
