  1. Another note of interest - when we left we were at the ACA airport - & Wayne had a headache - so there was a little pharmacy kiosk. We went over to get some aspirin & right there on the rack was VIAGRA - I of course picked it up & saw that it was $ 20.00 per pill!! I put it back - as we were boarding I mentioned this to Wayne - he said the price was in PESOS - so it was only $ 2.00 per pill!! Too late for me to run back!! But I'll remember that when we go back. You can get lots of medication right off the rack!! Linda
  2. For you coffee drinkers - the coffee in Mexico is the BEST!! I would order Mexican coffee when we went out to eat - it has a cinnamon flavor to it - but since I am a coffee addict - I also went to the Super Mercado - and bought a pound of coffee just to bring home & drink!! It is sooo good!! L
  3. Hi Linda!!Are you guys back all ready???? Welcome home if ya are!!! Yeah We're back!! A week isn't as long as it use to be!! I posted a review in "port reviews" - along with some pictures. Take a quick look!! Linda
  4. The ocean in front of our condo had a sandy beach - with small rocks. Not too bad on the feet - but the waves could be Killer!! I got caught by one & smashed hard into the ground - I am a great swimmer but I was a little scared. There were a lot of vendors working the beach - not many in the pictures but there were quite a few. This is the off season in Aca - no cruise ships the entire time we were there. We bought some T-shirts from the vendors - embroidered ones. I was going to get my hair braided - I liked yours - but I wasn't asked until the last day - then I thought it was too late. Maybe when we go in 2009!! Wayne & I would go back to La Perla for the dinner & the show!! It was well worth it - if we book in advance maybe we can get the front tables - they will pick us up at the cruise ship pier & bring us back after the last show. Linda
  5. Let me start by saying I have never written a review of our vacations. I do keep journals – little souvenirs, etc. – so if you want more details- I can provide those ~ just ask!! I am guessing most folks want to know what we did ~ so here goes!! View from our condo. We did the City Tour – cost was $ 54.00 US per person which I had booked before we left. The guide was bi-lingual (I mention this as we heard that Aca was bilingual – most guides are & the hotel front desk staff are – but waitresses & help the Super Mercado are not) the tour was with 2 other couples – one for Brazil & one from Chili. This was an air conditioned van (by the way – Aca is not only HOT but the humidity is 70 % so you melt when you step out side) This tour gave us a general sense of the city – which is HUGH!! Population is 1.5 million. We stopped for some great photo opportunities, saw Sylvester Stallone’s old house – by the way – they filmed Rambo II in Aca – during the raining season – not in Vietnam. We went by the lagoon, some very large resorts & had our first view of the Cliff Divers!! They are amazing!! I tend to think of vacations – not as resting, as some people do, but as “let’s see how much we can see & do in the time we have!!†That said, I tend to over book us!! After the City Tour we had another tour scheduled but we cancelled it. In Aca – they operated on “México Tiempo†– Mexican time – which means your 4 hour tour, could be 6 – 7 hours!! We took a blue & white VW taxi to Senor Frogs for dinner. The taxi ride in itself was an adventure. They call the taxi drivers kamikaze!! You can not image the times I screamed!! Senor Frogs has the best views of Aca. Dinner for 2 including drinks was $ 46.50 US – they took our Visa!! We had a morning free so I decided to do the parasailing!! Cost - $ 250.00 pesos or $ 25.00. The front desk staff at our resort had a guy waiting for me on the beach so we just followed him to the sails!! Let me tell you, I was TERRIFIED!! This guy is explaining to me how to guide me back to the ground & my knees are Jell-O!! Then he told me to run – as the boat pulls out & all I can think of is “is that a knot in the rope?â€Â! If you want to see short clips of my take off & landing – just tell me your e-mail address & I’ll send them to you. The tour lasted about 15 minutes and was THE BEST!! The view from the air was great!! The boat went out into the bay – then as it turned around – the sail lost its air & I started to slowly drift down – then the boat took off & I climbed even higher!! THRILLING!! My landing was picture perfect!! That night we went to La Pearl Restaurant for dinner – I booked this also before we left with a company called Pacific Tours – the cost was $ 56.00 US per person – which we paid to the driver when he picked us up. The price included transportation, dinner, tips, taxes & the show!! We only had to pay for our drinks. The food at La Pearl was fabulous!! Our 3 course dinner included Cesar salad, a main course – I had the “Elizabeth Taylor†– chicken breast stuff with spinach and cheese, veggie’s & baked potato – strawberry cheesecake for dessert. This was our second view of the cliff divers & our table was on the very edge of the restaurant!! We couldn’t have asked for better seats. The divers put on quite a show. Climbing the rocks – working the crowd – simply amazing!! DINNER WAS FABULOUS!! Breakfast was at 100 % Natural – they have 6 locations in Aca.We ate here twice – food was good & the coffee was pure heaven. Cost for 2 - $ 18.40 US – they took Visa. Next was a snorkel tour – we booked this ahead too & paid in advance– with shore trips – the local company is FISH R US – they have a web site. Cost was $ 78.00 US per person. This included an OPEN BAR – which was open before we even left the dock at 11:30 am!! Our first stop was the Cliff Divers – this time the view was from the water. One of the divers swims out to the boat – answers questions & collects some pesos. The history of the divers is fascinating – they are all related – cousins, uncles, etc. & have a “union†– all the money goes into the union – so everyone is paid. They have to stop diving when the turn 40. Then the yacht took us to a cove on the Isla Roqueta for snorkeling. We are use to the blue waters of the Caribbean – so the visibility here was not as good. We did snorkel & I took lots of pictures with an underwater camera – we shall see. Lunch was a HUGH buffet & again the bar was open! We all ate & enjoyed the cool breeze. Quick note – there was a couple from Paraguay – they had a daughter who was only 16 months old. The mother had on a thong bikini. We are all swimming & enjoying ourselves when they called us in for lunch. She swims to the ladder to climb up – to the cabin – which is about 10 feet above our heads. Wayne waited until she got up. Let me just say that she had a “Brazilian†before she left on vacation!! My goodness!! After lunch the boat took us on an entire bay cruise from East to West – the tour description was a “4 hour tour†we left the dock at 11:30 am and pulled in at 5:30 pm – remember – México tiempo!! We ate dinner at El Zorrito – great food!! Has been in Aca for over 50 years!! Dinner for 2 was $ 36.00 US – they took visa. Next day was an all day trip to the town of Taxco!! Again, booked in advance & paid prior to leaving. Cost $ 95.00 US per person, included transportation & lunch. It is a 4 hour drive there & 4 hours back & we spent the day doing a walking tour of the city. The architecture and the history were impressive. They have a cathedral that was built in 1726 – and the alters are covered in gold leaf. WE met the governor of Taxco – actually shook his hand. Learned a lot about Mexico & silver – Taxco is the silver capital of Mexico & we got some very nice pieces – ear rings, necklaces, etc. TAXCO - THE TOWN. These use to be 2-way streets. We cancelled our resort dive as I woke up with “bad potty†& ended up staying at the resort all day. Wayne was actually quite pleased with this as he finally got to rest. View from our balcony. Wayne in pool at resort. Bar along the beach. THINGS I WAS ASKED TO CHECK ON: Tequila factory tours: Tequila is not manufactured in the state of Guerro – which is the state that Aca is in. Tequila is manufactured in the state of Jalisco – south – which is where the cactus are grown & they do have large factories. Mescal is made in Guerrero – but not in large factories – just in stills - & when they serve it to you – it is in mason jars!! Mescal has the worm – NOT tequila – if there is a worm in your tequila – it is not true tequila as the worm lives in the cactus that makes the Mescal. Rosie’s tours. This was a tough one – EVERYONE does City Tours and they are all Rosy or Jose!! Now, as we drove to the airport yesterday I saw a sign that said Bianchi-Rossi Tours. When I asked the driver if Rossi was a man or woamn - he said neither - it is the company!! I also looked into the “pink & white†vehicles. They are all part of the Las Brisas Resort – each room has its own infinity pool & hot tub & all the vehicles are pink & white. Resort Dives – Fish R us does them. They start with a pool session then out to the island. Swiss Divers also does them – no pool though – right into 15-30 feet of water. Cost is $ 70.00 US for 2 dives. Let me know if you want to know more!! Aca has so much to see & do – or you can do nothing!! Our resort was located right in the middle of town. 30 minutes from the airport. When we left yesterday – we met a couple from Dallas – they stayed at the Grand Mayan resort – a HUGH place – just 7 minutes from the airport. They never left the resort – not in 7 days. So I think you make your vacation what you want it to be. WE like to get out & experience it!! I took over 200 pictures – if there is something else you want to see or know just ask. Adios!! Linda

  15. We have an all day (12 hour) trip to Taxco - taking a bus through the country. Should be nice to see what it looks like outside of the city. All our other excursions are around the city & the bahia. We're diving with Swiss Divers - near Isla de la Roqueta. Only dos dias!! L
  16. No - no lap top on this trip. You all know that I am a planner - and I tend to . . . how shall I say . . . over-extend us on trips. On Sunday we have a city tour from 10 -2 pm.
