  1. The one time I sailed with Crystal the service was terrible -- I tried to order the tasting menu (printed on the menu!) and was told I had to have "meat or fish" like steerage on a charter flight. The next cruise was on Holland America for 40% of the per diem and nothing but courtesy. If Crystal doesn't learn to execute, all the menu planning is delusional.
  2. Karin Stare-Janson was named Captain of the Monarch OTS in 2007--there have been others since. The headline is nonsense.
  3. Didn't Royal Caribbean name its' first female captain a number of years ago?
  4. The Cunard fleet is registered in Bermuda--why is it flying the red ensign???
  5. Sure to be a lot of gnashing of teeth, but when Cunard bought NAC they reflagged the Sagafjord and Vistafjord to the Bahamas and nothing particularly terrible happened. The cruise industry is the poster child for globalization; it seems odd to fixate on a technical detail.
  6. Have stayed three times now at Aparthotel Atanea Barcelona in Les Corts neighborhood, 1 block from Avenguda Diagonal. Comfortable, spacious, reasonable prices, easy to get to everything (metro a block away), and best of all branch of El Corte Ingles next door, for food (gourmet section in basement, nice restaurant) and any last-minute purchases you forgot. Can be booked on web through Booking.com
  7. There is a reason (actually many reasons) why the Prinsendam is the highest rated ship from a premium line in the Berlitz Guide-- the ship of one's dreams...
  8. Being from Wisconsin, my most pressing question is: where does Carnival get its red ale from? Leinies, or...???
  9. SS France transatlantic in 1971 (student standby fare-- $150 from NY to Southampton). Real French service, from sullen but correct to psychopathic, but we'll never see a ship like her again...
  10. Surprised by your relative lack of enthusiasm for the main dining room ("good most of the time") Did you find it significantly worse than on your previous Celebrity cruises ?(I've always found the food a high point, and the Century in December arguably (and unexpectedly) the best yet...
  11. Its a nice step forward not to have to have a paper deck plan in one hand and the i pod in the other --but even the old i pod version was great fun on the century and millenium class ships . (Will they be upgraded now?)
