$10 Per Day For Food

On our Costa cruise, we sat with a man who had a friend who was an accountant for a cruise line. He said the ships spend an average of $10 a day per person for food. Does this seem reasonable? Do you think they can feed one person three meals and extras for $10?

well if you assume wholesale prices ... not regular prices thats a possible... but it is europe also not sure what the rpices they charge there qholesale for food...but i am sure they get alot of discounts

i know when i buy in bulk its alot cheaper

Is it also true they can get 26 shots out of a large bottle of booze? They can really get their booze cheap by the lot. If that is true, they are making a ton of money off drinks..... just pop alone is outragious. We always buy a liter of pop for our room when we go ashore. I usually drink ice tea while walking around the ship.

Spoke with John B. He used to be chief mess officer for an aircraft carrier. Now, granted he reitred from the military a while ago (like 15 years), he said that you could do quite well on $10 a day pp. He used to feed his crew on $5 and they ate very well.

Now I can see why cruise ships are willing to almost give rooms away in the end just to fill the ship. The drinks alone will feed the people......

Oh, and those $10 and $15 photos on board. I take them all with my digital, print on Kodak paper at home and have great pictures of any size to frame. I take them with the island natives, clowns, etc. Better than onboard. Whatever do they do with the thousands of unsold photos? Tax writeoffs?
