  1. Good data Joey. I guess I could dress up as a middle class french suburbanite, then they'll be none the wiser.
  2. I guess it is too early. They have yet to post an itinerary. There is a vague reference to fall 2008. I'm still there though.... I wonder if they need volunteers for the transatlantic shakedown cruise.
  3. Would the French think me strange if I roamed around Cote d'Azur dressed as a pirate? Maybe if I added a Prada parrot.
  4. Anything planned for Halloween festivities on board? Joey, David & the door sign photo reminded me that we will be cruising on one of my favorite holidays. Are pro football games broadcast live or delayed? Does anyone know? The Cowboys/Redskins game is scheduled while we are in Santorini.
  5. Is it too early to start planning for the 2008 sailing of the new celebrity solstice?
  6. we are considering a 10+ night southern caribbean in the spring. maybe something that goes to alexandria in the fall. plus we are always up for anything going to rome or athens. open to suggestions.
  7. JohnG-No way! I took that course, I still have the books. I'm going to use them to brush up on my greek. That's just too cool.
  8. We don't budget either. We spend what we want, then figure out how to pay for it later. Not the mature thing to do, but I've never claimed to have grown up. JohnG- When were you stationed in Athens? I was at Hellenikon for a few years in the 80s. Arabic linguist.
  9. Kareen- The phrase book is going to be a great help. Thank you so much for putting in the time and effort. I didn't put your name on the last post because by the time I got finished reading all the new stuff, I forgot your name. I think aging (and teen agers) are decreasing the blood flow to my brain. :cheesy:
  10. Joey- You are too cool. I love the web site. Thank you for all the hard work. The phrase book is primo.
  11. Joey, The downside is that I think we are all critical care nurses. That usually means that you have to be on the verge of death before we will know what to do with you. We could def. shock the bejesus out of you though.
  12. Ryan, We will have to get together for the game (go CARDS  ). Ken and I are always up for football. I went to Uof L back in the day. Any suggestions for lodging in Barcelona? Not interested in shopping, but way into old buildings and art so would rather be near those kind of things. Packing already? you guys are way too organized. We are always scrambling around the night before we leave, trying to make sure we have everything. Maybe if we try advanced planning like you guys we could get some rest.
  13. Oh my goodness!!! I have yet to lose a pound. The "I have nothing to wear " panic is setting in.
  14. I'm a critical care RN and Ken is an engineering technical supervisor in semiconductors.
  15. The day we did the hideaway beach boat tour the ocean was a little choppy. The jarring and pressure on the spinal column was intense as the little speed boats bounced off the waves. We were up in the air, then smacked down hard on the water for 45 min. each way. Heed the neck/back problems warning on this one. We had engine trouble so were slower than the group and our boat had to be replace. We were pretty much left to fend for ourselves and find the beach. The beach is nothing special, full of seaweed. Not worth the dinero to me.
  16. Thanks guys, you have been very helpful.
  17. I am considering a 10N southern caribbean Ft. L to Ft. L on the Constellation in April. I would appreciate feedback/opinions on this route and ship. The most important ship's features to me are: comfortable beds, well equiped gym, the spa, quality of the coffee. If they happen to have an Irish pub that serves Guiness, so much the better. Help me oh wise CC community!
  18. and don't forget the hardest word to say in greek... ochi- no you can lose your soft palate with that one.
  19. Joey, The pins are awesome! What a cool idea. I'm going to wear mine to work and use it to keep me motivated. Thanks mucho. Is there anything that I can do in the way of recompense? Where is the spice market? We were thinking of hiking around the cape, but a walled city with a spice market will be hard to pass up. We will be taking the train in to Florence and Rome. In Rome we will be getting around by metro, I love to ride around on that thing and you can get just about anywhere. I have to go to the Villa Borghese museum and stare at the Bernini sculptures, then go hang out in the ruins at the forum. Naples: archeological museum and Pompeii, then house hunting in Sorrento. Santorini: We are going to try to hike up to the edge of the caldera. (Is there a trail/steps all the way up?) Athens: Parthenon, plaka and monstiriki(sp?) If time we will head down to Varkisa and check out my old apartment and have a meal at an oceanside sidewalk cafe. Venice: the Titians Mic's church and spend alot of time wandering around lost (as usual). How can you get sooo lost on such a tiny island?? What is everyone else planning so far? Any overlap? Man this post is long. I got carried away when my awesome pins arrived. I'd best go book some overtime. Shannon
  20. Hi Oldefox, Welcom to the crew. I'm new to the boards as well. Everyone is so friendly and they have alot of good information to share. I am becoming a cruisecrazies board addict.
  21. I kept getting smushed against the cliffs by those big tour buses that you mentioned. I lost a side view mirror and some paint. Thank goodness for insurance. No probs driving around the rest of Italy. I didn't see but the beginning and end of that section of coastline, I had to concentrate on driving. It is beautiful though. Are the aft cabins really great? Are the terraces roomy or long and skinny? For those who have sailed this route before...can you see the coastline as you sail along side Italy?
  22. I'm afraid of the Amalfi coast. I missed the exit to Sorrento and ended up in Ravelo. Instead of turning around and going back the way I came, I decided to drive up the coast. Aye caramba! Def. scarier than jumping out of a plane, or a moving vehicle. Shannon
  23. This is our 4th cruise. Ken is in semiconductors and I am a critical care RN. We will be in Barcelona prob. the morning of departure. We are playing around with a few pre and post ideas, but nothing set yet. I really want to go to Malaga, so maybe we will do that. We will be in cabin #8067. We have not sailed Celebrity yet and are looking forward to the experience. Shannon
  24. Hello. My husband and I are sailing with you guys in October. Is this a special group board, or for anyone on the same sailing? Shannon
