GALVESTON, Texas  The Galveston cruise ship terminal was evacuated Thursday after officials found what appeared to be a suspicious package on a cruise ship, but it turned out to be a computer printer. Coast Guard and FBI officials told KPRC-TV in Houston that a canine unit found the package on Carnival's "Ecstasy" ship around 8:30 a.m. The passengers and crew were kept onboard during the investigation, officials shut down much of the port. Passenger debarkation from a Carnival ship in Galveston was delayed Thursday following the discovery of a suspicious package, according to Carnival Cruise Lines. The company said the Ecstasy, had returned to Galveston at the end of five-day Caribbean cruise. "The debarkation process was temporarily halted and the cruise terminal evacuated while the package was further investigated by law enforcement authorities," Carnival said in a statement. "It turned out to be a false alarm and debarkation resumed mid-morning." Captain of Royal Caribbean’s newest ship Liberty of the Seas described the inaugural call to Grand Cayman as nearly perfect, but noted it would be better if passengers could walk directly on and off from shore. Captain Hernan Zini spoke to those invited guests from the Cayman Islands who went onboard the ship Wednesday for its inaugural cruise call to Grand Cayman. Sharing the title of world’s largest cruise ship with sister ship, Freedom of the Seas, Liberty has a gross tonnage of 160,000, and will call every second week to the port of Grand Cayman on its western itinerary. Mr. Zini noted that both Grand Cayman and the day’s weather conditions were beautiful and the only thing that would make it better would be if passengers could walk directly onto the ship without the need for tenders, hinting at the cruise line’s desire for berthing facilities. Negotiations are ongoing between the Cayman Islands government and the cruise lines for the project to build berthing facilities in George Town. Those who went on board the ship included Leader of Government Business Kurt Tibbetts, Speaker of the House Edna Moyle and Member of the Legislative Assembly Osbourne Bodden, along with senior civil servants and representatives from business organisations such as the Cayman Islands Tourism Association and the Chamber of Commerce. “It is very nice for us to take the newest Royal Caribbean addition to the fleet, and not only the newest but the largest ship in the world and most forward thinking ship in the world to one of the most beautiful destinations in the Caribbean, Grand Cayman,†Mr. Zini said. Not sure what would happen on cruise. When I was hotel manager, we had a woman come in She had someone to call set up a resv thru a Corp accout. When it came time for her to check out my night auditer caught it. She had over 100.00 extra charges that wasnt covered. We found out that she was commiting fraud. Called the cops, they gave her 3 hours to come up with the cash. She couldnt off to jail she went. They had to call Family to come get her daughter. She was charged, part of her probation was she had to pay us back thru the court system. She was still making payments on it when I left a year later.
