On May 1, 2006, American Airlines* became the first major U.S. airline in the industry to offer the flexibility to pay for food, alcoholic beverages and headsets with credit cards or debit cards, in addition to cash, onboard flights. Flight attendants are using state-of-the-art, wireless handheld devices to quickly swipe credit or debit card and provide a receipt for each transaction.

You'll first see the onboard devices on our Boeing 767-200 aircraft. The rollout will take place during a six-week period, and the devices will be available on all American Airlines flights by mid-June.

Aircraft Type / Rollout Time Frame

Boeing 767-200 May 11, 2006

Boeing 767 / 777 Late May

Airbus A300 Late May

Boeing 737 Early June

Boeing 757 / Boeing MD-80 Mid June

American Express® has generously provided support for this industry leading initiative for quick and convenient onboard transactions.
