hamster92256
Since our next cruise is in January and we weren't sure about the passport requirements, as far as I know they will be required but that could change. We got our documents together, filled out the forms and brought them to our local county clerk. No problem with my 16yr old, Karen had a passport that had expired a good 15 years ago but they used it instead of her birth certificate, but my birth certificate was deemed unacceptable. Because of its age and condition, I guess after almost 50 years of sitting around all folded up it was in almost 4 pieces, understandable  County clerk stated that there was a possiblity that the State Dept could refuse to accept it and it would most likely hold up and delay the process. Not to mention the fact that I would have to pay part of the fee again. I suppose the point that I am trying to make is if you have a birth certificate that sounds like it is in the condition that mine is in it might behove you to get new(reissue) one so as not to hold up getting your passport!!! Prices vary from state to state, NY and CA being the most expensive but cheaper than paying the extra fees to reprocess the passport paperwork. Since Karen was the one who has done this more than once(for herself, daughters boyfriend, and me) she would be the one with that information if you need it!!! GottaCruz
Great post, Chris. Wayne and I also got new birth certificates before applying for the passports so the process wouldn't be delayed. Good info for everyone.
