  1. Option 3- a dark suit. We cruise once a year most years, and half our cruises are on ships without formal nights. Joe last wore a tux more than 20 years ago; before that, his last tux (actually a white dinner jacket) was at our wedding in June, 1968. If he were a tux and dinner jacket person, he would buy a dinner jacket only if he did a lot of summer cruising; otherwise, he'd stick to black.
  2. When X announced the first two new ships, we were appalled and disappointed, since we had been hoping that they'd order something with well under 2,000 PAX. Unfortunately, that's how the cruise industry is going--big, big, big! Ordering a third huge ship is no surprise to us. Maybe our cruise on the Noordam, if we actually go (right now we're extremely pessimistic due to Joe's work situation), will change our mind about big ships (we like small ships!); otherwise, we'll give everything with over 2,000 PAX a pass.
  3. Rose, dance the Annicersary Waltz, and have a great time on the Sovereign.<]

  5. Mercedes, welcome to this Crazy board. We're not the biggest cruise board, but we're the friendliest. Post often, and soon your inside stateroom will be upgraded to an outside, then a veranda, etc. Have fun here--we do!

  9. Congratulations to you and all CC group members on becoming DDMs. Enjoy the Med.!
  10. You'll definitely want to buy wine in Europe, even if you don't bring it onboard. On our Med. cruise, we bough so much wine that we never tried the ship's wine on a two week cruise, and brought some bottles home. Normally we don't start a trip with any wine (unless there's a special occasion), but by some in ports if we're in wine country. Ditto soda: we don't start with any, but often buy some if there's interesting local diet soda (such as ginger beer in Bermuda). Otherwise, we're happy with the ship's water (we bring plastic water bottles), iced tea, wine, and an occasional soda. (Joe drinks so little soda that he didn't have any on Radisson, even though it was free.) Bring booze onboard? Not any more! A few years ago, when the cruise line alcohol policies were a bit more relaxed, we occasionally bought local spirits; but not with the new, nastier policy of confiscating the stuff.

  20. It's great to see you here, Lisa. You've been interesting and helpful to us on the other board, and we hope to see more of the same from you. You'll notice that here, unlike the other CC board, there are general discussions, games, and other stuff. Be active and enjoy!

  24. All of the jazz shows on our Radisson (now Regent) Seven Seas Navigator cruise last September. Why? Because it was a jazz cruise with great jazz men and women. Here is an excerpt from our review, with typos corrected: "Entertainment Entertainment was the best we’ve ever had. The show room and Vista lounge were comfortable, the cast shows (six talented young people) and entertainers were fine, and the lounge players were excellent. This was all overshadowed by the special signature events of the cruise: this was a jazz cruise. And what jazz! Eleven jazz men and women, many of them famous: Bucky Pizzarelli, John Allred, Randy Sandke, Nikki Parrott, Carolyn Leonhart, and several others. There was jazz once or twice a day: in the showroom, the Vista lounge, and by the pool. Hot jazz, cool jazz, old and new, New Orleans, Chicago, and Memphis style. Soloists, big combos, small combos. Total saturation, after we hadn’t been to a jazz concert in years. We loved every minute. What was best, the jazz performers were treated as passengers when they weren’t performing, and we kept running into them: at dinner, around the ship, in ports. We saw them as people, not just performers." Other than that, shows on ships have been pleasant, but not especially memorable. The one thing we have found is that we absolutely HATE any show that is labeled "Las Vegas style", or any performer with a similar label. (That, our dislike of hot weather, and the fact that we don't gamble at all are among the reasons why we've never been to Las Vegas. We hate glitz!) BTW, Jason and Cheryl, our review is listed as "Radisson-Seven Seas Navigator". Please change Radisson to Regent. Thanks.
  25. Ok, what trouble did you get in that you are trying to get out of now? LOL No trouble, that's just how I feel after nearly 40 years. She's still a beautiful young woman to me. No luck in money lotteries or sweepstakes, so I guess I'll have to be content with being lucky in the marriage lottery. I've probably entered hundreds of contests such as the RCI one, but have never won anything. I was even in a drawing once with six tickets and five winners. Guess who didn't win! (Since the drawing was by Park West, and the winners had to pay about $35 to get their "free" lithos shipped home, maybe Joan and I were the only winners, not the only losers, in the "5 of 6" drawing. We're not Park West fans; but that's another topivc entirely.)
