Jeannew1956
On another site I saw several recommendations of a place called Mr Sanchos ..I think? Or was it a place called nachi something?? It was touted as being less crowded, had good food and tiki hut covered tables on the beach as well as being easy on the budget. Do any of you have first hand knowledge of this place? Since all of us going live in Florida we're really not interested in spending the day at the beach to sunbath or swim etc because we have easy access to that any time we want but we would like to enjoy a couple hours taking in the scenery and getting some photos and enjoying some adult beverages along with some tapas in a tropical setting. Some of us were interested in the Xcarat excursion but it's not offered on our cruise since we're there 1p - 10p so we are just going to wing it. A few of us are interested in exploring the town on our own away from the touristy areas. In other words we want to experience the real side of Cozumel and not the places that cater to tourists ... any suggestions? We live in Orlando so maybe that gives you a hint on why we want to avoid tourist areas I think it would be fun to take the road less traveled to shop and see the places that locals frequent. zebra
Jeanne - we went to Margaritaville.... it was very quiet (as you can see by the empty tables), right on the water, you can sit inside or outside, listen to the wonderful music and even have the guacamole made fresh, from scratch tableside. We loved it.

Jeannew1956
He brings his little cart tableside and prepares the most AMAZING guacamole for you!! that looks and sounds wonderful Jackie! From the first photo it looks very close to the port so that may have to be our first stop or a good option for last stop before boarding the ship that night. thanks! KeithnRita
If you want to see the island you could take a Jeep tour. We did that a few years ago and had a great time. Just make sure they are using Jeep Wranglers and not the POS Geo Trackers!
DebbieandJerry
We've been to Cozumel a number of times. The first time, we rented 2 jeeps (seats 4 each). We had a blast just driving around the island. (The ship will caution you about mopeds (don't rent them). But the jeep was just fine.) The car rental place pointed out a few non-tourist places for us and we managed to stop at all of them. One place had hammocks where we could lie around, eat and drink. The next time we were in Cozumel we went to Chan Kanab Park (I probably butchered the spelling). We did the walking/hiking thing in the park; not the snorkel/beach thing. Next time, we teamed up with total strangers and rented a boat where some could dive and others could snorkel. We just walked in to a dive shop and started talking. One couple was from Alberta, Canada, the other was from England. We had a blast. Never have made it to the Mayan Ruins. Everyone says they are spectacular, but it's an all day affair with a good majority of it travelling to/fro. Perhaps on another stop. zebra
Yea Jeannie that restaurant is walking distance from the ship. I would suggest going in the morning. We were there at 11:00 am and it was perfect - I can imagine that later in the afternoon when everyone is back from their excursions it would get as busy as heck. Why not do it the other way. Margaritaville first and then rent a car like we did and tour the entire island, stopping at various isolated beaches - and then back to the ship. We're not into T-shirt shops and i have all the jewelry I need, so the shops don't have such a major impact on us at all. We have also spent a day at Chankanaab - the snorkeling was out of this world, although the water can get a little rough there. Another great thing is the Altlantis Submarine... it's gorgeous as the submarine cruises right on the edge of the shelf where there is a 500 foot drop in the ocean. We loved that. So there are many options.
