What to Order in a Cruise Ship's Main Dining Room
DebbieandJerry replied to Jason's topic in Let's Talk Cruise!
We always love to try something that we normally would not order in a restaurant. We have found our waiters to be most gracious. If we do not like something, they are more than willing to find us something else. -
Cruise line unveils 'Game of Thrones' tour

Once I can afford Crystal, a $289 per person tour charge will be a drop in the bucket. -
Carnival Dream sails on inaugural cruise from New Orleans

Wonderful news article all around. Love New Orleans. Cannot wait to return! -
New Longer Carnival Cruises From Galveston
DebbieandJerry replied to Jan115's topic in  Carnival Cruise Line
What's even stranger is that Houston is Continental's hub. I don't think the flight cost is distance. I think it's the airport. Tucson is a very small airport with not a lot of activity. Phoenix International is much bigger, but it takes about 90 minutes to get to Phoenix, another 30-40 to navigate the airport (ha!) and the parking is high. Then, after a cruise, we really don't want to have to drive a long distance to get home and get all stressed up. -

New Cruise Review - Aniversary Cruise
DebbieandJerry replied to dino1pa's topic in Let's Talk Cruise!
To me, the sweater and sheet issue are two huge red flags of a poor cabin steward and his supervisor. But, I'm glad that the Gem was a beauty. Sorry about the bad weather. Great to see you posting. I miss not reading them -
New Longer Carnival Cruises From Galveston
DebbieandJerry replied to Jan115's topic in  Carnival Cruise Line
Marcy and I were talking about this last night. Sadly, the flight from Tucson to Houston is as much as the flight Tucson to FLL. Then there's the 60-minute one way to Galveston. I told her that we would have to do this together so that we could share the expenses. -
Enjoy the Carnival Breeze. I see where another cruise crazy member is on the same sailing. Come back and tell us all about your vacation.

NCL drops Roatan after murder of crew member
DebbieandJerry replied to Jason's topic in Let's Talk Cruise!
This is horrible news all around. First the tragedy of a murder at a sea port. Second the tragedy of a murder at a sea port. Sadly, I fear that Roatan will be dropped from itineraries (similar to Mazatlan and the issues faced there.) -
Good information for the meat-a-tarian. We did try the specialty restaurant on NCL when we were in Hawaii. We were not impressed.

Cruise lines defend treatment of staff. Your thoughts?
DebbieandJerry replied to Jason's topic in Let's Talk Cruise!
Interesting article. Labor laws were established in the US not so long ago and they keep evolving and changing. I'm guessing that the cruising industry is going to have to come up with their own set of laws. I agree that the crew works a bazillion amount of hours and that their pay is small. I agree that most of the crew make much more money on the ship then they would at their home country (if there were jobs for them in their home country). I don't know what the solution is. I'm guessing the cost of the cruise would go up tremendously if more staff had to be hired to "comply" with US working labor laws. This is a tough one. Glad I don't have to solve it. -

We are also looking at Galveston as a port. The itineraries are wonderful. The airfare from Tucson to Houston and then the shuttle is what is holding me back (at least for now). We absolutely love Cozumel. Been there at least 3 times on a cruise, maybe more. Each time we hire a taxi (one way fare) to Chan Kanab Park. There's a small entrance fee, but it's worth it. The beach is fabulous. The water is delicious and the snorkeling is not bad. Jerry and I just love walking around the grounds and seeing all the changes that have been made. Getting a taxi back to the ship is easy. They line up at the entrance. Belize has incredible snorkeling. It's still a tender stop and the "townspeople" operate the tender. Be prepared to sit on this very hot, diesel (interpret as foul smelling) tender for quite awhile. With that being said, we have done 2 fantastic excursions in Belize. One was the cave tubing. Not sure if it's still offered. The second was a combination of events: riding in a jeep (that you drive), sailing down a river, crossing over bridges, having an incredible trek through a cave and a delicious (locally prepared) lunch. Rum punch drive back (they drive, you drink). Totally worth the time and the money. We definitely want to return to Honduras. The only time we had an opportunity to be there, I was sick for 3 days with a killer migraine. I urged Jerry to explore on his own. He said that he would wait for me and we'll do it together. What that really meant was, "I can just lounge around and sleep all day, if I want." From what I was able to see out our balcony, it's beautiful! -

We had three health emergencies on the Carnival Freedom Sept 2013. All of them were handled with the coast guard and helicopter.- 12 replies

Congrats all around: anniversary, graduation, another cruise, and finding us on the web. We have never sailed from PR, but love it as a port. Definitely try to get there a day or so before you leave, or extend your vacation after. -
Glad you found us. I'm looking forward to getting to know you "on the board"

Haven't been on the Allure, but have been to these ports. The Allure is a beautiful ship. Look within this website because I do recall a "crazie" who posted pictures of her. We love water sports and highly recommend the Rhino riding in St. Maarten. You can book it with ShoreTrips or with the ship. We've done both, but totally recommend on your own. We also recommend the double jet ski excursion in St. Thomas. This one we booked with the ship because of the drive to get there. Each time in St. Maarten we've hired a taxi driver. The Rhino riding is at Simpson Beach. We told the driver when to come back to get us (he was able to fit another fare in between). Then we told him to drive us around both sides of the island and stop at the local places, not just the tourist places. We negotiated a fare for the amount of time that we had him. If you don't do the shopping routine in St. Thomas, you will want to do an excursion. You should have enough time to do both. We've been to Nassau a number of times. Not my favorite port, but certainly not the worst one that I've been to. Last year we walked around the outdoor markets and downtown shops. Ft Lauderdale is a great port to sail in and out of.
