cruisinmama
Hi I've been wondering about this and have not been able to figure it out...I have prices for a Cruise I'd like to go on but have rates in USA funds and a rate in Canadian . now the currency conversion from USA to Canadian is not adding up. I guess what I don't understand is even with the current exchange the canadian quote is at least 350.00 more money after the exchange rate is done to the Cruise..HUH Also do other canadian travelers book in USA or Canadian funds? do you find one way better money saving wise. But wouldn't say Carnival or RCI have the same stateroom rate for a TA in the USA or Canada? I know then the TA in Canada would do the exchange but to be that much of a difference I don't get it.. I welcome your thoughts and ideas. TIA Thanks

DebbieandJerry
Ann, I'm just a bit puzzled. Where are you seeing the conversion rate? Are you on Carnival's website or a travel internet site? Is it possible that it hasn't been updated? I am now curious as to what you find out. I agree better deal everytime  Ok, this is what I am understanding if rates are say 1877.00 USD complete to Cruise and if they convert to 1971.60 CND why am I quoted $ 2293.24 CND..thats a diff of  $321.64 CND..thats allot.. I guess I'm thinking booking in USA funds is better as I do have a USA bank account which when our good old canadian dollar doesn't suck I buy a bit at a time and let it sit there. Even Mastercard who I called have a worse rate of exchange so maybe I answered my own question.. Buy US dollars at a good rate and then pay via draft for Cruises via a USA TA... I dunno.. very odd....
jacketwatch
The only cruise line I know of that has discrepent rates for non US passengers is Princess. I've become aware that for in particular Aussies Princess charges way more AND if they try to book thru their webiste they are directed to non US agents where the gouge occurs. I verified this myself by placing a call to them to check on prices ofr us and our "Aussie friends". I am not sure hwy you got such a big difference as the dollar values are not that far apart. Is there some sort of say luxury tax for the govt??? Anyway go for the best deal you can get. Have you tried cruisecompete BTW?
