  1. I split the difference. I bought pants for a tuxedo and a two pleated shirts with studs, two cummerbunds and a velvet dinner jacket and shoes. The jacket and shoes can be worn with black pants and an open-collar shirt and nobody notices anything amiss!
  2. Itinerary wins out with me. I love the ship, but for me it's really just a floating hotel. I want to see all the different places!
  3. I feel the same way - give me a little space, I'll give you a little space; when dinnertime comes around, we can get together and chat about what we did/saw. If we're going on the same excursion, fine; if not, fine also.
  4. Our recent RCI Mediterranean cruise featured lectures on the history and culture of countries and historic places visited by the ship. The lecturer was a retired professor of humanities from, I believe, UC Berkeley. I spoke with him, and he indicated that he was paid with cruise fare! So on the educational front, RCI is already doing the lectures, on a standard cruise. Bravo!
  5. Perhaps the cruise ships could have an armed agent aboard, similar to the sky marshals on US planes... would require cooperation between countries.
  6. Thank u for the heads-up on that all-inclusive resort; I guess that since a few have been very successful at it, everyone wants to do it. I'm surprised that the guy with the microphone didn't wind up needing to make a $20 doctor's visit...
  7. Our experience with RCI has been totally positive. The crew and staff are always polite and anxious to help you.
  8. Stay tuned - we may be able to put together a group cruise to Europe in 2014...
  9. EUROPE WITHOUT A SECOND THOUGHT! The trips we have taken to the Caribe have been nice, but Europe is excitement, history, romance, culture and shopping for things that can't be bought in this hemisphere.
  10. You And Sharon Have A Great Vacation, Kevin! The Pix Look Yummy!!!
  11. Cheryl and Wayne, have a great cruise and don't forget which port to return to!
  12. Good article, John. I'm with you - the Concordia mishap won't deter Yuki and me from taking to the seas every chance we get!
  13. Andi, Bon Voyage! Hope it's a No. 1, absolutely Top Drawer cruise!
  14. Jackie, Bon Voyage to you and Tony on the Radiance! We'll miss you (but not to say "Wish You Were Here" - instead, "Wish We Were There"!
  15. Add my kudos to the growing list!
  16. Glad they didn't forge ahead and wind up adrift somewhere!
  17. Across the board the cruise industry has been hurt by Costa's troubles. Economy is looking better, though, so look for the stocks to bounce back later on this year.
  18. Every other cruise we take is a major one - Europe or some such - and so we're out a bunch if anything goes wrong. Insurance is the only way to go, but make sure you know what is and what isn't covered, and make sure you have copies of all travel documents both with you and at home in a safe place.
  19. Still one of the songs I play when I perform...
  20. As I recall it, the itinerary was on HAL...
  21. But if you're not there, whatever will the rest of us do if the toilet breaks down???
  22. A jacket is ALWAYS a good idea (we cruised the Caribe and hit Key West when it was 32* - brrr!). Alaska doesn't get the gulf stream, though, so Norway is generally warmer, particularly near the coast, and that's where the fjords are. We were at Nordkapp in June, and didn't need anything more than long sleeves, and that's quite a lot farther to the north than, say, Bergen...
  23. Rose, we're trying to scout out a group Med cruise for 2014, to cover these spots (if possible). Stay tuned...
