  3. I think there is a fair amount of difference. I would not have said so before, but on our last cruise we had a far forward cabin on the top deck ( Golden Princess, Lido deck) and yes I felt the movement was stronger then it was lower and midship( like when we were in the dining room) . I will be more careful to book a lower midship cabin next time, admittely we did have 2 days of rough seas, so if weather is fine it most likely is not an issur( I had never really cared about cabin location on previous 3 cruises) but the truth is you can never count of the weather, so if prone to seasickness I would take your TA's advise.
  4. I could give the " polictically correct" answer, which is " everyone should just do what they want and what they are comfortable with" , but that wouldn't be the truth.( for me) I think thongs belong on a beach, preferably an adult orientated beach. I think that if one wears a thong they are doing one of two things( or both) . a) showing off their bottom. b) trying to get a good tan. a) is too vain for me. I don't want to see your size 3 a*s, and I don't care how hard you've worked out to get that. b) I do understand, but then I would assume if one was wearing such a suit for that particular purpose only, then one could throw on a wrap or towel if one walks across the pool deck to get a drink etc. in which case I could care less what they are wearing while actually lieing down on a lounge. In this day and age it seems so hard to have any sort of values. You get called uptight or mean, but, I just don't care, wearing a thong can be a form of exhibitionism as far as I am concerned, your bottom is NAKED in public for goodness sake. Goodness sake , some people don't mind thongs , but just try and breastfeed in public and they are freaked out they might see an inch of breast! Breastfeeding does not bother me at all, thongs do. Go figure.
  5. fascot, I so agree with you. Here in Canada it is different in each province, where we live in BC the drinking age is 19, it is 18 in Alberta. I think it is wierd that the US sends 18 yr olds to war yet doesn't think they are responsible enought to drink. As far as I know the US does not have a better record regarding drinking and driving or alcohol related deaths for their youth, then any of the other countries with drinking ages of 18 or 19. Teaching personal responsibity has little to do with age and alot to do with a parents and societies willingness to do the work! PS Beer and wine are just as bad as hard liqour so that is really a silly rule, if I was an 18 yr old girl I'd want to order a nice drink with an umbrella in it! Beer and wine are the same amount of alcohol drink for drink as hard liqour so I don't quite get the reasoning.
  6. Well personally we loved GC, so I can understand being bummed, but as pointed out there are some good things about Costa Maya, so I would research it and then just go and have fun!
  7. I can not stand reading these posts , I so badly want to go again. I can't pick one favorite time. I love the afternoons , just lieing on the beach somewhere or by the pool having a chocolate banana. I love creeping out onto the balcony in the middle of the night and watching the moon on the ocean. I love the late afternoon drinks on our balcony. I love everything, I want to goooooooooooo!!!!!!
  8. For us, cruising is all about relaxing, we have three kids( which we only borught once when they were littl and we only had the two first ones) and we just thought, no more, we need one week to ourselves every coulple of years to just relax. We vacation by camping( we had a motorhome for years now we rent trailers and cabins) with the kids, and we also have taken seperate trips overseas to visit friends. But... cruising, that is sheer relaxing by the pool or beach us time.
  9. Not surprising, keep in mind that Conde Naste mag is not about budget travel so most of their readers are going on the luxury lines to begin with.
  10. Do not know about Carnival, but I know on Princess you can bring wine onboard no problem. We also ordered from room service a bottle( 26 er) of rum for 20$, and bought a six pack of diet coke in the first port . Drinks on our balcony every night. Plus on Princess each room has a fridge( an empty one, not a mini bar!) and the room steward refilled our ice bucket everyafternoon without us asking!
  11. Hi Jason I have the same problem, there is an ad in the way and it won't move!!! My favorites window is not open. help.
  12. Our first two cruises we had traditional seating so we chose to sit at larger tables. Our last two cruises we have chosen Personal Choice dining( which we love) and have enjoyed the flexibily of choosing a large table most nights, except one night I was seasick, and we could just dine as a couple( didn't think I'd make it through dinner, but it was formal night so I was going to die trying!)
  13. I agree with Johns post, we don't cruise to shop, we are beach folk! We have only been to Princess Cays( twice) and we love it, no cash needed, no pushy venders and nice lounge chairs( for free!)
  14. Well we have done early( and found it too early and rushed on port days) and we have done late( and found it too late, finishing dinner at 10 or 10:30 some nights!) so this last cruise on Princess we took the Personal Choice dining option and LOVED it! You go to the dining room when you want. We never had to wait more than 10 minutes for a table and that was only once or twice. We generally went between 6:30 and 7 and that suited us just great!
  15. Gottacruz, yes Denise and I have "hooked up" and are looking forward to meeting on the ship for "sail away" !!! Only six more sleeps! Denise, it's me , pg. had to choose another "name " on this board( wouldn't accept pg. )
  16. Seven more sleeps for us!! Then we leave for our April 17th cruise on the Golden!! ( we fly in the day before)
  17. Hi Guys, nope, We were going to both be on the Caribbean Princess on May 15th but we ended up switching to the Golden for APRIL 17th!!!!!! We switched because of price and we just got nervous about the "new ship" we weren't too sure if we wanted to be with that many more people. The movie under the stars thing didn't turn us on either. BUT< now having seen some pictures and reading a few of the recent posts it looks like a nice ship. We do have some friends going on the May 1 st sailing( on the CP) so it will be interesting to hear back from them! We are also happy that we moved up our cruise by a month, the sooner the better when it comes to cruising!!
  18. Bonjour Aurore, We never buy the perfume on the ships as we are Canadians and we do not find the prices any good. The american dollar is as you know stronger than ours, so once we convert the cost , we find the perfume at home just as cheap! I don't think you asked but when I buy perfume I buy Opium for the winter, and Chanel no. 5 for the summer. Good luck on your project, I think you may have to contact the cruise line directly to get better answers!
  19. I doubt there is much going on between staff and passengers. First most staff would not consider risking there job for a " fling". Second most people know that having a " fling " with a stranger whose sexual history in a unknown, is risking their lives. Not only is there Aids but there is still many other sexually transmitted diseases, and anyone willing to have a casual fling on board is obviously not " inexperienced" and therefore not a safe sex bet! I suppose a casual flirtation does develope many times, but I doubt it would often go farther than that( yes I know there are always exceptions! I imagine there are different rules for higher ranking officers, but I doubt they are the ones playing around much, they do socialize more though and are allowed in the public areas of the ships when not on duty which the regular service staff staff aren't.
  20. Hi hubby is very fair, blonde and blue eyed. He hashad 8 pre-cancerous moles removed inthe last 10 years. He too broke out in terribly itchy tiny red bumps with most sunscreens. Our dermatoligist recommended "Ombrelle" and IT WORKS!!!!!! NO burning no itching , and not slimy feeling. Exspensive, but priceless to us!! My hubby uses the 30 or 45 SFP I use the 15(I am not a burner).
  21. I say try Princess. They have personal choice dining so you can go to the dining room and request a table for two, or four or what ever. Their room service is great, the age mix is great, ( I think HAL might be a touch older and quieter) Princess is elegant( no silly pool games) plus I understand they have guest lectures on the ports that are actually informative( unlike the useless ones most cruiselines give in the Caribbean which are such sales pitches for their prefered stores) It will be quiet enough for your MIL and still have enough options for you( you are around my age) .Good shows etc. That all said I guess I should say that although my mom( age 72) has never been on Princess, she has been on HAL and really liked them! Good luck!
  22. We cruised Princess when we were mid thirties and loved it. we had prevouisly cruised twice on Carnival and although it was " fun" we certainly enjoyed Princess more. We found the ages to be very well spread out, famlies , older, younger and if we had to say the average age I guess I'd say 40 to 45.We didn't find at all stuffy or boring!
  23. Question, can you drink ( a glass or two of wine, not a case of beer ) when using the patch?
