Lisa63
Several reasons. The cruise industry has also made a concerted effort to attract younger passengers. Larger ships, more activities, comprehensive kids' programs have all contributed to a rise in the number of passengers, and bringing in new cruisers was essential. Cruising is now a family vacation for many -- if they are including the kids in the average, that would certainly bring down the average age of pax. Cruising is not as expensive as it was 15-20 years ago, thereby opening this type of vacation to many (like myself) who would not have been able to afford it in the past. JoeyandDavid
could it be that we are getting older?

elfed
I agree with the other postings. Young people have better jobs ,more money and more free time than us "Wrinklies"!!! Good for them. As long as they show their "ship's manners" I welcome them. Regards, James.
sailingrose
I agree James but I don't think the younger ones get the true meaning of cruising. In the last few years we've witnessed some unbelievable behavior by passengers. Guess it says something about our society today. Also the cruise lines in an effort to get more "family friendly" have dropped some of their standards.

cruiseduo
Age is relative . . . . . I started with the company I retired from in 1973. I remember going to sales meetings and a couple of 'newbies' and I used to comment on the 'old guys' at the meeting. Then shortly before I retired in 2001, the same 'newbie' and I were reminding ourselves that we are the 'old guys' we talked about. Now it's five years later and I'm still . . . . . . . young enough to cruise, have fun, and keep up with the 'newbie' cruisers. We're only as old as we think we are! Please keep paying your FICA taxes, that's what we use for our cruises!<]
btate
I think that someone got smart. . . They know we go on vacation and that we spend money on our kids. We don't like to entertain our kids, but we want to be with them and know that they are having fun. We want to see that they are happy and we will pay to see that. We want to feel like we made it possible for them to be happy as their parents. We just don't want to entertain them, we want to take a nap and eat and lay by the pool and get a tan. Someone in marketing figured this out and that is why younger families cruise. They give you BIG bang for your buck and the biggest worrie I have is "what am I going to wear for dinner?" I think that is why younger people are cruising. . .
